Evolution Through UCF's Diverse Theatre Environment

UCF is where I want to grow.
I want to evolve as a person, and I believe UCF’s diverse environment is what I need. I was fortunate enough to tour the theatre department in the fall, where I was given the chance to follow a stage-management BFA student for a day. Experiencing the campus atmosphere as if I were already a student brought me a calm confidence in my decisions. Theatre has been in my life for a long time because I wanted it to be, and I would love the opportunity continue my journey at UCF.
When I visited, I witnessed the stage managers at the Cloud 9 rehearsal leading their first read-through rehearsal. Their stage managers were experienced, yet dedicated to learn everything. Tommy, their stage manager embodied everything I’ve been taught by my theatre mentors. I only needed to peek at his script, with its double-paged blocking printouts and color-coded page tabs to find what I could do better with my own. He was calm and proficient while assisting the director and other rehearsal guests.
Claudia Lynch, the stage-management department head, made me feel comfortable and relaxed despite the anxiety any interview can cause. …show more content…

I have stage managed ten shows with different directors, crews and actors. I believe I was drawn to stage-management as a career because responsibility and organization come naturally to me. I often instinctively put myself in leadership positions because I find my best motivation from other people. I am not afraid to ask questions, and work diligently to understand and follow directions. I enjoy delegating and ensuring that tasks are accomplished with other people. Even in stressful, tight deadlines or strict surroundings, I know how to maintain a positive attitude and remain professional. My skills in effective, consistent communication, organization and determination bring the team closer together, no matter what position I’m put
