It happened so fast no one even noticed. One Thursday evening we made sure to plop on the couch at 6:30 P.M. precisely; not to miss the next episode of our favorite T.V. show. The same show we have committed ourselves to for the last three years. Next, we began to watch eye-catching T.V. shows four episodes at a time, every chance we acquire; enabling any seven-season series to wrap up within a one month period. Binge watching an entire T.V. series on Netflix has become considerably more satisfying than watching over years, as television originally releases each season. The main reason we have turned our backs on regular television, leaving it in the dust, is because rising industries are surpassing former T.V. experience. These days we expect everything instant and without hesitation; which is where Netflix saw an advantage to improve the experience previously provided by television. Originally, popular episodes on television released weeks from each other, with months between seasons, and years between premieres and finales. Whereas during the rising era of a digital world, Netflix can release every season in T.V. series’ at once- introducing the ability to binge-watch and eliminating the prolonged wait. Gratefully, using Netflix we skip suspenseful cliffhangers during the breaks between commercials, episodes, and seasons. We immediately get to play the next episode to fulfill any curiosities. Unlike, ending an episode on T.V. that leaves viewers anxious for what is to happen next. Awaiting that next episode for weeks, fans are left unfocused to dwell on further details to create sense of the final mystery left to unravel. Equally, Netflix allows subscribers instant viewing of upcoming episodes to answer any withheld details. Entertainment viewers are not forced to settle for a forty-five-minute interval; anxiously awaiting the next new episode to come out. No longer are we left to wonder in suspense. Influenced by all of society’s new obsession with binge-watching, other services like Hulu and Amazon followed shortly behind Netflix’s lead. All in all, society is forcing companies to become what we yearn or they will be left on the back burner, soon to be forgotten. We sway into on-demand entertainment with ease since we now get to watch our favorite shows non-stop. In effect, entertainment services are having to conform to society’s new desire and love for binge-watching. Our habits directly affect the successfulness of entertainment industries, whether we realize it or not. Netflix has become exactly the type of entertainment service we seek - television series’ that are available suddenly and without delay. This same service is becoming sought upon in almost every area of our lives as society
