According to Investopedia, succession planning is “a strategy for passing each key leadership role within a company to someone else in such a way that the company continues to operate after the incumbent leader is no longer in control. Succession planning ensures that businesses continue to run smoothly after the business’s most important people move on to new opportunities, retire or pass away.” (Anon., n.d.) Coaching and mentoring can facilitate succession planning.
Professional and personal development helps the organisation in product and new materials development. It will reduce development costs of new products, services, software, and processes and shorten development times and time to market.

Allocation of resources - allocating time, financial planning, study leave and other resources necessary to attend the professional development.
Attract support of others - verify that you obtain the backup of you family, co-workers and the management.
