When it comes to the subject of transgenderism, there are many different thoughts and opinions about this new topic to the public. Transgenderism is a very controversial subject, especially in North Carolina. Whether or not if one agrees or disagrees at the end of the day a transgender is still a human being. The transgender person is capable of still working; they have all the qualities as a straight non-transgender. It is a legal choice that one decides to do; a transgender should still get their Civil Rights Act that was declared in 1964. That act is a federal law that prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin and religion (AAUW). In North Carolina there are different ways that transgenders are being discriminated in the workforce. It starts off with companies who just do not hire transgender workers because they do not want to deal with all the problems. Some companies are afraid of hiring a transgender because they do not know how to handle situations that would occur. Having a transgender worker should not be a problem though, because they should be treated equality like everyone else. Approximately 67% small businesses in North Carolina still have not hired a transgender worker because they would not know how to react or handle it (EqualityNC). Most employers just look at the transgender person and assume the worst stereotype. There have been several cases in North Carolina where a person does not get their raise or gets fired because of their appearance. It makes it challenging for a transgender to find a job after some companies make them feel uncomfortable after because humiliated and insulted for how they look.
