I haven’t always wanted to live in a different state when I was older. The thought never even crossed my mind until a couple years ago when one of my friends had been living in North Carolina. Around this time I had also been traveling to different states for some missionary work so traveling around really started to interest me. After hearing about North Carolina from my friend, I thought I wanted to live there; after some research I realized that maybe it wasn’t the best place for me, because I found Greenville. Although not perfect, Greenville, South Carolina would be a great place to live because of all the history, affordability, and easy-going way of life the area brings. After the Revolution, in 1786 the state legislature formed Greenville County, naming it after the hero of the American southern campaign, Gen. Nathaniel Greene (The History Of Greenville 1-5). Greenville County was originally named Pleasantburg and it was officially a county in 1786 and the name was changed in 1831 (Greenville, South Carolina). The first owner of the city of Greenville was Thomas Brandon who was later bought out by Lemuel Alston who increased the size to 11,000 acres (The History of Greenville 1-5). There have been reports of lights turning on and off at will, doors flying open by themselves, and during a period of construction when the electricity was disconnected, the lights came on at night (Embassy). The last haunted place I’ll be talking about is the Duncan Chapel Methodist Church’s Children’s Graveyard. The cemetery is older than the church, which was built in the 1850s, with some gravestones dating back to the late 1700s (Children’s). People have said that they’ve seen unexplained lights, disembodied laughing, and running footsteps and 74% of people reported this place is as haunted as everyone says
