Introduction to the Topic The reading for this assignment covered leadership styles and theories, and models of leadership. Satterlee (2013) shows that there are three aspects of leadership: the person, the position, and the processes. A leader must fine-tune their leadership style to achieve success. Communication is the most important skill a leader should possess.
Three Concepts The three important concepts from this week’s reading are transformational, servant and change leadership. A leader may change his style depending on the problem and situation at hand. Any leader needs to have followers to facilitate a plan and commit to the goals of the organization.

Burns (Drenkard, 2013), a true transformation can only happen when there is a relationship between the leader and the followers. The leader does not have all the power and authority. He or she creates an environment that brings the leader and followers together. A highly effective leader will have a highly effective team. The leader must communicate the vision and goals of the organization to the followers (Satterlee, 2013).
Servant Leadership. Servant leadership is for those who are willing to serve first and then lead (Berger, 2014). Robert Greenleaf states that people judge a servant by the following: “Do those served grow in persons?” and “Do they while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants?” (Berger, 2014). The seven virtuous constructs of a servant leader are agape love, altruism, humility, trust, vision, empowerment and service (Berger, 2014).
Change Leadership. Change must occur in the pursuit of improvement. Leaders are to motivate subordinates in overcoming change and resistance to change. Leaders are to provide the workers with the tools needed for changes, provide a role model and provide training. Some of the personnel issues mentioned by Merchant (1982) can be avoided if the employees are provided with the tools and training needed for the changes.
