The Vet-Net employee network sponsors the Toys For Tots toy drive each year in support of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots mission of collecting new, unwrapped toys during the months of November and December and distributing those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Toys for Tots began as a Los Angeles charitable effort in 1947. Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, was inspired by his wife Diane when she tried to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but couldn't find any organization to do so. At her suggestion, he gathered a group of local Marine reservists, including Lieutenant Colonel John Hampton, who coordinated and collected some 5,000 toys for local
In this paper I will discuss two different case studies. The first case study involves a 35-month old girl named Kim who struggles with meal time, potty training, and play time with others. I will discuss four assistive technology devices, that would work for Kim. These devices will assist Kim with balance, mobility and undressing. The second case study involves a school age child name Billy, who struggles with benchmark objectives. Billy is in the fourth grade and use Assistive technology devices reading and math. I will discuss different AT devices that can be used to assist Billy with reading and math.

Portsmouth Infants and Toddlers endured a significant budget cut during SY18. Consequently, funding had to be reallocated to elimination or decrease needed direct services and system operations line items. Specifically, $11,725 dollars was reallocated from Occupational and Physical Therapy to Speech Therapy. The demand for speech has increased dramatically; however, OT and PT are still needed in Portsmouth.

It was created in 2003 in Roanoke, Virginia. This was created by John, a former troop, to help people like him get help with their injuries. John was in a war and his convoy drove over an IED (a mini hidden bomb) and crashed and killed fourteen of his members. After this event, he started a nonprofit charity in his basement with 50 dollars. He wanted to help marines like him after a horrific injury. (source 1).
Children form the largest percentage of the global population. The population of children is high and so is their levels of vulnerability, especially in the modern day world where political, social and economic problems integrate, thereby necessitate a substantial number of challenges of child care. Meeting the needs of children, especially guaranteeing children of protection is not only an expensive, but also an extremely complex activity. This is the reason as to why the modern day world had numerous agencies working within and across nations to ensure that child care is attained. However, it is imperative to note that the presence of numerous organizations working to embrace child care could on one hand imply the weight with which
My research paper is focusing on the topic of universal preschool in the United States. I will be researching if there is evidence supporting a need for preschool for all age eligible children. My goal is to present evidence supporting why this is important and why it is beneficial.
Toy stores are perfect places for a sociologist to use their sociological imagination. Gendering and racism is thought to be something that is socially constructed as opposed to biologically constructed. Gendering starts during infancy, and around 2 years old children start to internalize these gender differences. I argue that children’s toys help socialize children into gender specific roles. Toy stores, like Target and Toys R Us help us understand what types of toys help to gender children. I will explain how the toys in the toy aisles differ and compare. Not all toys are either male or female, some toys are gender neutral.
Children in general need to be safe and in addition to that their toys need to match their ages, especially their stages of development as well as their abilities. A lot of those safe further more appropriate playing materials for the children are free items which are typically found at home. There are those playing material which can be used in one way or the other by the children of various age groups. these could be playing materials such as plastic bowls, Cardboard boxes, lids, a collection of plastic, bottle caps, in addition to other treasures. In this case there is a website which offers suggested toys for children of different ages and in going through the website one of the main things which is supposed to be kept in mind is that each and every child develops at his or her own pace. There is a list of items which children can use for playing. The list comprises of a good choice for children with different ages that is the younger as well as the older then the suggested age range. This article majors generally on those toys for young infants that is from birth to the age of six months though mostly three and four months of age. At this stage babies like to stare at people and following them with the eyes. In general, it is at this age limits that they prefer faces as well as bright colors (Goldfield, 1987). Babies can get in touch with, can be fascinated with that which their hands as well as their feet can do, they can lift their heads, turn their it in the direction of the sounds, they put various things they come across in their mouths, and many more. They recommended good toys for young infants as well as children of different ages which are recommended have got to be
I was very humbled to have volunteered for an organization called Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots is a project in which people come together to wrap and pack gifts to deliver to poor people. Unsurprisingly, my participation in Toys for Tots has changed my views on poverty. Basically, this activity changed my whole perspective on poverty because I learned that being grateful for what I own is extremely significant when living a greathearted life. Reflecting on your life, it is very important to not take your belongs for granted. Everyone complains about what they want, but it is more necessary to look at what you have instead of what you do not have. In addition to gratefulness, Toys for Tots has given me thoughts about people like me that do
Mr. and Mrs. Munoz can actually get Special Education Early Childhood Intervention for their daughter Camila. Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is available to children from the age of birth to three years of age. As a parent, if you suspect that your child has problems with their growth or their abilities contact ECI. The parent can make a referral in order to get the child evaluated. If approved to receive ECI services, the child’s service coordinator and the parent work together in order to create an Individual Family Service Plan for the child. The Individual Family Service Plan will benefit the needs of your child. Mostly all services
Every dream needs a spark, and for me, the match that lit my passion for pediatric occupational therapy occurred when I was in sixth grade. In 2012, my cousin was horrifically injured in a school bus crash that left him in critical condition. However, seeing the remarkable recovery he made with the help of his doctors and therapists was truly a miracle. With their aid, he went from being connected to machines in a hospital bed to living life as a rowdy teenage boy; this led to my desire of helping kids in similar situations as his. Recently, I shadowed an occupational therapist. I observed her treating both the pediatric and adult population with a variety of diagnoses including, but not limited to, developmental delay, sensory processing disorder,
Infancy involves rapid growth of the brain. This is a time when learning occurs through environmental cues, crying, and most importantly, the mother or other primary caregiver. This early learning or attachment between infants and their mothers or primary caregivers has a significant impact on the infant’s development. A primary caregiver’s ability to connect with an infant has significant developmental outcomes that have an impact on cognition and learning (Snyder, Shapiro, & Treleaven, 2012).
In this essay, I decided to study people who have previously owned a daycare and how it has impacted their lives. Is owning a daycare hard? Why or why not? This was my main question throughout this process because owning a daycare is a job that is commonly looked very easy because there isn’t much work to do, however, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes that people don’t notice when dropping their children off.
