Today’s resiliency leader requires unique skill sets to be successful in any organization. Leaders who capture leading by example, vision and helping others weather the storm have taken the first step to success. Followers seek the following key concepts to validate their need for the organizational structure. Visionary leaders look at the big picture of the organization, and they pave the way of future endeavors. Another concept that is equally important to a leader’s vision is leading by example. When the leader introduces the vision into an organization, they need to lead the way by setting the example of what they vision should look like. Another example of leading by example is Paul the apostle who authored most of the New Testament. In Philippians chapter three and throughout the scriptures, Paul suffered and went through many trials as a Christian; however, he continued to persevere in his pursuit of the high calling in Christ Jesus. Furthermore, he encouraged the body of Christ to be like him and never give up. He told the church that he did not make it on his own, and the tribulation that lay behind and ahead are the worth calling for the prize of the upward call is in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3: 12-15) Leaders who understand the biblical concept of example would do the right thing at the time with the help of God. Additionally they should never be too big that they forget they came from small beginnings. (Zechariah 4:10) In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. God had a vision, and a picture when he created man. God implanted a dream in man to dream big. Habakkuk 2:2 writes to make the vision plain on paper so that a runner can carry the correct message. The leader must write a vision so that employees can carry it out. An organizational structure that lacks a visionary leader is doomed fail. The people will soon lose sight of the purpose and eventually develop a lackadaisical attitude. The Bible clearly states its purpose; God’s word would accomplish on this earth what it was set out to do. (Isaiah 55:11) Therefore, whether an organization or leader likes it or not, vision motivates, directs and unifies. (Dees, p. 159) Leaders are vital to the implementation of a vision. Therefore, it is imperative that the leaders understand the definition of vision. Vision is a potent image of the future state you want to create. “It is forward looking, forward thinking, and forward designing toward the way leaders think the future should unfold. It drives the development of strategies and plans to ensure that the envisioned future is arrived at as soon as possible.” (Vestal, p. 8) Vision can be implemented in an organization through strategic planning. Through the use of vision and mission statements, organizations exist and live. Many great organizations such as the United States Air Force, utilize strategic planning by constantly looking at different strategies to prepare for the future. Strategic planning “requires more than a weekend retreat. It requires considerable requisite preparation. Its tipping point is the establishment of a common culture.
