A little over a week ago, I was hopping into my car to drive home following an intense cross country workout. Too caught up in pondering my splits for our three mile time trial and how proud I was of the effort I had put forth, I had completely dismissed that I had a thirty minute piano lesson at 5pm immediately following my cross country practice. After turning on the car, I glanced down at the digital clock completely unaware of my predicament...5:04. I immediately realized that I was in trouble. Not only would I be late...I would surrender half of my expensive lesson time. Still, realizing that I did not want to waste my parents’ money and my teacher’s time, I instantaneously zoomed out of the LCHS parking lot, sped along the freeway, exited, and returned home. We are too caught up in the present and what we are doing now and fail to remember the past and to look to the future. In this restless society, many Americans have fallen victim to this profound yet simple problem. Students forget about assignments and tests, teachers lose track of time in their thought-provoking lectures, and even parents forget their own children’s names as they are busy pondering the struggles of another one of their children or the many duties to which they must attend.
However, our forgetfulness is not solely linked to the business and restlessness of the society in which we live, but also is a direct result of the exhaustion and laziness we feel because of the business of our lives.
After completing my homework last week, I retired to my bed. Due to lateness of the hour, I forgot to turn off my bedroom light. I woke up around 4:45am, about five or six hours after falling asleep. I had not even noticed a difference in my sleep and thought that I had turned off my bedroom light. Luckily, I woke up and was able to enjoy the final hour of my sleep in
