The tragedy of the Titanic sinking on April 15th 1912 has been retold by multiple movies, but none of the other movies combine actual events and a love story the way James Cameron did. The Titanic (1997) directed and produced by James Cameron made close to 2 billion dollars in box office and received eleven Oscars, which was a surprise to Paramount (Braund,1). The Fox-Paramount partnership soured when the predicted final cost of the movie was over $200 million dollars, and Paramount only agreed to pay $65 million, which Fox had to pay for the rest (Braund,8). Paramount did not believe Titanic (1997) would be financially successful. The reasons Titanic (1997) received high financial achievements was because of the love story between Jack and …show more content…

The ship that was built for the Titanic was built to scale and constructed in different sections. In Simon Braund article of ‘The making of the Titanic’, he discussed how Titanic sunk by hydraulic riser. “The sinking process,” says McLaglen,” took it from three degrees then to six degrees. The forward section had a riser allowing it to sink 30 feet. The poop deck could go zero to 90 degrees, all the way from level to 12 o’clock. That was really hair-raising (Braund, 6). In the movie, the Titanic, they did not use computer to achieve the look of a grand ship and did not use it for extras. This was demonstrated in Braund’s article when he stated, “But with the Titanic, when you see the 800-foot ship, it’s an 800- foot ship; when you see 500 extras running along the deck, it’s 500 extras. The difficulty of capturing that, getting the cameras set up, was an enormous challenge.” Cameron had a lot of talented people helping with technological aspects and Russel Carpenter was one of those individuals. Russel Carpenter was quoted in Braund article about some difficulties in filming the Titanic (1997). He told one story of when they were filming, the water came rushing through the dome ceiling onto the first-class salon and the water’s force stopped the safety back-up and shut out all the lights except for the single light on the paraffin dome. It terrified Carpenter when that happened because he thought they would have to rebuild and shoot it again but thankfully it turned out even better than it was supposed
