“Confessions of a Juggler” is an article written by Tina Fey who is an American actress, comedian, producer, writer and a mother of one. Fey graduated from the University of Virginia in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama. She is well known for her impressions of Sarah Palin on the popular TV show Saturday Night Live. In Fey’s article she states that “the topic of working moms is a tap dance in a minefield” which implies that it will not end well due to it being such a touchy subject. “Oh, Brother!” is an article written by Hara Estroff who is an author, journalist, and an editor. She also shows young people and even adults, that being different, being true to yourself, and loving yourself isn’t wrong, its beautiful. “Don’t waste your energy trying to educate or change opinions; go over, under, through, and opinions will change organically when you’re the boss. Fey is also a powerful advocate for the LGBTQ community, she has stated “I’m certainly more open-minded to people’s differences, and it definitely gave me a wider swath of humor styles. I grew up so much in theater, so the gay community has always been a natural part of who I feel like I’m playing to. At one point Ellen DeGeneres got kicked off of a talk show, but it wasn’t for her performance, it was because she came out as lesbian and the talk show did not accept that. But instead of giving up, Ellen decided to take her career in her own hands by doing that she raised to fame years later. But how did she come from being at rock bottom to an inspiration to so many? It was a journey but in order to inspire, Ellen persuaded the audience to stay true to themselves by using pathos and ethos.

Humor can come in many different forms. Many people are aware of the blatant humor of slapstick, but it takes a keener mind to notice the subtle detail in sarcasm or satire. In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift was able to create a piece of literature addressing the faults of the Irish culture while embedding in a humorous essay. Swift’s satire allows for the gravity of the Irish standings to be exploited under the disguise of a proposal for economic benefit.

Rappoport received his BA and MS at New York University, and completed his PhD in 1963 at the University of Colorado (Kansas State University). The audience can either be on the side of the audience that is getting laughed at, or they can be on the side of the audience that is laughing with other people.

Similar to many other lively pleasures, humor can only be experienced if it resonates with a person. Without some kind of comprehension, there cannot be any type of reaction. Only once an outlandish statement, inappropriate remark, or unexpected situation, is remotely understood will a person be able to label it comical or sober. Since there are billions of people worldwide with their own languages including it’s respective idioms, euphemisms, the age old saying of “there is truth in every joke” applies to each culture individually.
Hiding behind humor can be a serious problem; it can not be the only way of expressing our emotions. Some of the greatest comedians have been secretly depressed. Using humor as a defense mechanism can be a serious mental health issue.
