Though in video clip one and two, you only saw the portion of the video where the students where completing an activity or practicing a skill, before both video, the students were given some sort of prior academic learning. For example, before the students completed the irony activity in video one, the students and I define the three types of irony that they were expected to identify and analyze in the activity that was shown in video one. To add on, after the students and I defined the three types of irony and looked at examples of each, the students and I watched/listen to a YouTube video called, “Isn’t It Ironic.” While the video was playing, the students were expected to note one or two example of irony from the video to later discuss with the class. Thus, when the students were completing the irony activity in video clip one, they were able to use their prior academic learning on irony to help them be successful with this activity. …show more content…

For one, in clip one, many of the irony statements which the students had to categorize were actually referencing many concepts and even popular entertainments that most adolescences are familiar with. For instance, at the end of the video when I am reviewing the answers with the students, I read an example of irony that was taken from Toy Story, which is a popular movie that many American teenagers watched when they were growing up. Thus, in this example (and many others that were not shown in this video) the students’ prior personal, cultural, community, and developmental assets were brought into the classroom to help them better understand the idea of irony and to even develop their understanding of their own cultural, community, and developmental
