The desire for revenge is a powerful force that drives people to perform tasks they would not normally perform. In the novel A Court of Wings and Ruin the protagonist, Feyre, sought out to obtain revenge for the pain inflicted on the members of her inner circle which consisted of her two sisters and individuals who she considered family. Tamlin, her former lover, sold her and her inner circle out in exchange for taking Feyre back to his home. Feyre escaped Tamlin’s home in the Spring Court because the once charming Tamlin became controlling, abusive and toxic. Once Tamlin sold Feyre’s inner circle out, intense pain was brought upon those individuals including turning both her sisters to something inhuman. Upon seeing all the pain being inflicted on her loved ones Feyre finally agrees to return to his home but vows to bring Tamlin’s court to it’s knees. Feyre leaves the Spring Court in chaos and vulnerable to the upcoming war. Revenge was essential to Feyre because she watched as the people she held so dearly cry out blood-curdling screams and be turned against their will into something inhuman. In addition, this revenge was personal to her because Tamlin kept her locked away as his form of ‘protection’ and even became abusive. Tamlin caused Feyre intense pain and for her it was unforgivable. The desire for revenge is never a positive feeling. In most cases, it is a fire within oneself that can only be put by obtaining vengeance. For Feyre, the screams and blood of her loved ones stained her nightmares until she avenged them. Once she obtained her revenge, Feyre felt a sense of accomplishment, she had completed her
