For my first theater experience I elected to see A Streetcar Named Desire by famous playwright, Tennessee Williams. I chose this above all else because I had read the play in high school but I had never seen it actually acted out before. I thought seeing a play that I was familiar with would enhance my first theater experience. I saw the well-known play on October 6th, a calm Tuesday night. The venue of the play was at the Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. I ordered my ticket on the phone for 20 dollars which is quite inexpensive compared to other plays. Originally, the ticket would have been 40 dollars, but a friend of mine, who I went to high school with and was also going to see the play, informed me that tickets bought on the phone were half off. The play was scheduled for a 7pm with a run time of about three hours start so we left campus at 6:30pm. The ride to the Gamm Theatre was very pleasant. The sun was going down and my friend and I were having a conversation on what we expected from the play. When we arrived at the location and entered, I instantly noticed an overwhelming amount of older people in the lobby. I wasn’t surprised because I knew A Streetcar Named Desire was an older play that came out in their generation. I walked to the box office to get the ticket that I had reserved on the phone. I walked over to the entrance of the theater and was met by an usher who handed me a program and directed me to the seat. My seat was in the far left of theater. When I entered, I was surprised by the stage because I was expecting a proscenium theater but instead the audience was extremely close to the stage.
