The play that I went and saw was Midsummer Night’s Dream at the University Theatre. This play was set in a proscenium venue because the audience was in front of the stage facing the actors. The playwright of this play is William Shakespeare and it was directed by Kirsten Brandt. This play centered around a bunch of lovers who get trapped in an absurd love triangle that is caused by the use of a love potion. There are many characters in the play but the most important one would be Hermia, who is the daughter to Egeus. She is in love with Lysander, but her father disapproves and wants her to marry Demetrius, who loves her. However Hermia does not love Demetrius back, but her friend Helena does. Egeus asks Theseus, the King of Athens, for help in Hermia wedding Demetrius. This play takes place in Athens, Greece. The plot of the story, as I mentioned before, is about a love triangle. Shakespeare’s writing style consists of verses that are in early modern english. Because of how different Shakespeare 's use of language is, it was kind of hard trying to comprehend what the actors were saying. Since understanding Shakespeare was already tough as it is, I was very impressed with the way the actors accurately said all of their lines, without messing up. The dialogue and diction was different for each actor because the dialogue represented their characters. Bottom’s dialogues were my favorite because they were humorous and that made the mood of the play change. For example, sometimes there would be a serious line from one of the other characters, and then Bottom would randomly join in and say something silly and that would make the audience laugh.
