A manager should have a set of guidelines or rules to keep in the back of his or her mind to keep everything running smoothly. According to there are fifty rules to be successful leader, but I will focus on what I feel are the top ten. I have seen them in action at and they have influenced how I would lead when I lead.
The number one rule would be Leadership is confusing as hell. I feel this is important to remember because one must remember every leadership position is different and thus must be approached differently. I saw this when I was an employee for Sears Holding Corporation at its Groveport, Ohio distribution center. Each manager of the different departments had to run his/her department differently.
The number two rule would be Leaders love the mess. I feel this is important to remember because a leader must embrace chaos. The chaos all the different people, personalities and situations and during it make it work for the greater good. I experienced this when I was a summer camp in sixth grade, the consoler somehow managed to keep all of us inline and where we need to be.

Leaders are not afraid to ‘get their hands dirty.’ With all of this, the herd or team will be more productive and willing to bleed with them…go the extra mile, to complete an objective. I would like to say that I emulate this philosophy, but there are behaviors/skills that I need to hone:
After completing the “Leadership Style Questionnaire” and analyzing my results, I have learned what my preferred leadership style is and how that influences how I lead and may be perceived from members of the group. From the results attained from the questionnaire, my preferred style of leadership is directing. This type of leadership style is best for individuals who have a low competency and high commitment level. These types of leaders are highly focused on tasks and less focused on relationships. They make decisions without consulting with the group and communicate without regarding the group’s concerns or suggestions. This type of leader also supervises the followers intently. They are very successful in creating objectives for each follower and the group as a whole to guide the group in reaching a certain goal.
What is a leader? What is a boss? These are two similar words that mean two different things. A leader will inspire, drive, and uplift. A boss will speak, command, and yell. Our businesses and leaders should be more like a leader and less like a boss. The four points of leadership are kindness, positivity, generosity, and a higher sense of purpose. Business nowadays has strayed from these four points, they are chasing money and are out for themselves. Companies are outsourcing and are not looking out for their employees. My vision is for an America that will remember these four points and become great leaders. This generation of kids is losing the true leadership of the past. It is our job to bring it back.
Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p. 3). While playing an active role in your community is a positive thing it does not make someone a leader of that community. All leaders have a group of people they have inspiration too and that is a good way of determining who your personal leaders are. My mother, brother, and grandfather are my leaders because I have always looked up to them and tried to mimic some of the great things that I have seen them do. My mother has always been an independent women with goals and an action plan to accomplish those set goals. Stephen, my elder brother, is outgoing and tends to have a leveled head when it comes to evaluating stressful situations. My grandfather is the most caring person I know and he is amazing at keeping situations under control in order to please everyone. These are all the qualities I want to combine into my own leadership style. I know I am not a efficient leader of these actions yet, but I plan on growing into this as I more on into my career, fulfill my set goals, and adjust to the curve-balls that life throws at me.
Leaders should lead by example. What a leader does and how they do it, serves as an example for others to follow. A leader’s behavior and actions are an important and effective way to influence the behavior of the people the lead. Leaders must treat other with dignity and respect. Leaders take responsibility for their actions, maintain their integrity by doing the right things and develop personable and commutative vision for their organizations. Leaders instill a sense of discipline; enforce organizational standards of the organization and do not turn a blind eye or overlook problems.
When people think of leadership so many things rush through their heads. For example am I a leader, am I apart of a group that has a leader, and what does being a leader mean? A common definition of being a leader is a person who leads or guides a group of people. So now knowing the definition of a leader who pops into your head; Phil Jackson, Mike Krzyzewski, Martin Luther King Jr.? All of these people are great leaders, but the real question is why are they so great? One very important thing that all these men have in common is they have a philosophy of leadership. This philosophy is going to help guide these men during turbulent times, or when they need guidance themselves. Nobody is perfect and everyone needs direction no matter how wise or gifted you are. I am no different, which is why writing this philosophy of leadership is going to be a fruitful experience for years to come.
This book has been very helpful and eyeopening to several things I have never thought of. Being in a servant leadership position I am very thankful for the opportunity to read this book and learn to apply this to my life. I will put this book on my read once a year shelf. Each area mentioned spoke to me and it was clearly understood the process, the story’s, the application. I was very pleased that Maxwell revised his book. He added more detailed explanations and almost all the different ways to apply it. He tells us about each law in a simple and understandable detail but doesn’t overwhelm me. During my observations each law stood out to me. They are all equally important as one can

RESPECT- The underlying foundation of all great commands is respect. A command cannot function properly if there is a lack of respect among its members. This starts from the top and trickles down to the lowest ranks. As leaders we must remember that we can never give an order that we would not perform ourselves.
One very important aspect of a great leader is to lead by example. Any person in a position to guide others cannot ask the team to do one thing and act in the complete opposite way. Leadership and Management are two very important positions to have for anyone in an organization. Both of these positions come with a great deal of responsibilities; however, they both serve two different purposes and responsibilities in an organization, along with a different sent of guidelines. This paper will differentiate between Leadership and Management, give two recommendations to create and maintain a healthy organizational culture and give two examples to support the recommendations.
Leadership is defined as a process by which an individual influences others to obtain goals. There are three aspects that should be addressed when explaining leadership. One aspect is that leadership is a social influence process; leadership could not exist without a leader and one or more followers. Another leadership aspect is compliance; all of the leader’s directions must be complied with voluntarily. Compliance is what separates leadership from other influence-based formal authority. Finally, leadership results in the followers’ behavior, that is purposeful and goal-directed which must be in some organized setting (Leadership Theories and Studies, 2009).
The following review presents a discussion of five articles related to leadership. This discussion will identify themes shared by the five articles followed by a presentation of the author’s recommendations for applications of the concepts presented in the articles.
