The YMCA
The YMCA is a leading nonprofit organization for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA, also known as the Y, is a nonprofit like no other. This is because in 10,000 neighborhoods across the nation, Y-CAP has the presence and partnerships to promise and deliver a positive change.
History
The Memphis YMCA was a lay-evangelical fellowship of young men united by a common loyalty to Jesus Christ for the first 15 years that it existed. In the 1860s, the Memphis YMCA became inactive due to the Civil War, and the Yellow Fever epidemics of the 1870s. After that period, the Memphis YMCA became permanently recognized in 1883. It is a all-inclusive program that highlights specific values such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. It is recognized by local school and court personnel as being a highly effective prevention and intervention program. Y-CAP currently serves the Mid-South area, including Memphis, TN, since 1998 and DeSoto County, MS, since 2000.
Funding
One way the YMCA is funded is by government grants and aid. Another way is through membership dues and fees. However, Y-CAP is primarily funded by donations. The services depend on the amount of money the agency receives.

Role of Social Work
Social Workers at Y-CAP are persistent in serving youth and their parents, providing a wide variety of vital social services to over 1,200 youth all around the community since 2010. Y-CAP believes its program of services and activities progress the quality of life for at-risk youth and their families as well as improve academic success and increase problem-solving skills, coping skills, and family connections in assessable ways. It provides transportation for the students, snacks, clothes (as prizes), earned school supplies, and much more. Y-CAP also provides homework activities for to students who do not have any. Y-CAP goes above and beyond to do what they feel needs to be done. The agency has goals that they want met and have been successful in meeting these goals. 75% of the students have demonstrated improved behavior choices. 86% have demonstrated improved school attendance. 68% have demonstrated improved conduct in school. 62% have demonstrated an improvement in academic performance. 70% have demonstrated improved use of our core values, which is honesty, caring, respect and
