In our society, women are faced with discrimination more than men. Compared to men, women face a lot inequalities in the work field. Men and women who hold the same position in a work field have differences in wage, this is known as the wage gap. Women are typically paid less than men despite the amount of work, effort, and skill level they have at their job. The wage gap between genders has been around since women entered the work force and still remains in existence to this day. Wage gaps is an important controversial topic in our society that should be put to an end. The wage gap signifies inequalities between gender and privileges that men have over women. This issue is important to me because I believe that women should receive equal opportunity, however, men are repressing women from achieving their highest potential. I also find this important because my mother and other people who I personally know have been effected by the wage gap. I would try to raise awareness by campaigning and protesting with other women in front of big cooperates who implement the wage gap. I would also address this with women who are less conscious of the underpaid wages they are receiving. I could also be able to contribute to this issue by educating women on how to rise above the discrimination. Women who are more educated about the topic will feel the need to fight against the wage gap for their own benefit. They can be educated in things such as the “glass ceiling”. The “glass ceiling” is defined as the unseen barrier that keeps women and minorities from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate ladder, regardless of their qualifications or achievements. Women who are aware of the inequality in big cooperates because of their gender typically do not understand that the highest position would many fall under the hands of a guy. Women can be educated by acknowledging that their wages can only get raised to an extent, and despite their qualifications companies will not let them reach their highest potential in pay.
