I think it is problematic to say "the youth in the United States" are privileged because it implies that you are referring to all the youth in America and this is simply just not the case. The youth in the inner city South Bronx was the reason that hip hop culture was created because of their lack of privilege. Also, because of this reason, I don't necessarily agree that the youth are more privileged now, because cost of living has increased compared to the past, making those who were oppressed then, especially financially, even more oppressed now, especially generations still stuck in these inner city neighborhoods.
