After carefully reading the materials, what I came to understand is that often times the oppressor is oblivious to the his or her privileges and the impact that it has on the oppressive. McIntosh sates that, “oppressiveness is unconsciousness.” In other words, the privilege is conditioned to think that it is normal to live the way they do. This it normally because being privileged prevents them for oppression. The dominant group escapes oppression and instead creates opportunities that are inaccessible to the minority group which is also the oppressed group. Being privileged comes in many forms.
