The Titanic Blame

“We are in collision with berg. Sinking head down. 41.46° N, 50.41° W. Come soon as possible.” At 11:20 P.M. the “Unsinkable” ship sent this wireless distress message to the Olympic. But the Olympic did not get there in time. If the Titanic did not sink so fast then the Olympic and other ships could have gotten there in time to save all of the passengers. If the Titanic was built better then that would not be a problem. The Harland and Wolff Shipyard Company is to blame for the sinking of the Titanic and the high number of casualties because the wrong materials were used, the layout and design were poor, and they were too confident with their ship that safety was not a concern.

That could only contain about 1,200 people. That was just over half of the 2,200 people on board. The text says,”Although there was room on deck for twice as many lifeboats, the Titanic carried lifeboats for just over half of the passengers and crew members on board. The designer of the Titanic had allowed room on deck for two rows of lifeboats, but the second row was removed before the voyage had begun to make the deck more aesthetically pleasing.” This evidence confirms that more lifeboats could have been held on the Titanic, and there would have been enough to hold all of the passengers. The number of casualties was a lot higher because a lot of people could not even get on lifeboats. If they did not remove the second row of lifeboats a lot more people would have …show more content…

Some people disagree and say that the Harland and Wolff Shipyard Company is not to blame. In the text it says,”Titanic was built from the best known steel of the day…” But that is wrong, because in a news article from CBC News it says,”Studies of the steel that made up the hull and rivets of the Titanic have shown that the ship was made with lower-grade metals that were more brittle in cold waters, suggesting that lives might have been saved had the vessel had been constructed with better material.” They used lower-grade metals that were not as strong or expensive. If the Harland and Wolff Shipyard Company had used stronger materials, that were not as fragile, then more lives would have been saved
