A thousand years from now a whole township of my offspring will be biting sour apples in the gumwood shade.” (page 183) Throughout the story, Dandelion Wine, family is a major theme. After long busy days they all come together and are able to spend time together. It is very important to not get to caught up in life and forget the true meaning and the importance of family. Because life and family are such major aspects in the book, realizing what it is like to live and to die, family traditions, family time and working together is so important in there everyday lives in Dandelion Wine. Grandpa and Douglas work together to set up the porch swing on the front porch of Grandpa’s house. After a long day the whole family gathers together on the front porch as a family. I think that this is such a great thing that they all do together. I love how they all gather together at grandpa and grandma’s house. A lot of times our lives get very busy and we lose simple things, like all gathering together at the end of a day. While reading chapter 7 I could really tell how much Douglas enjoyed this time he had with his family. This was really cool to read about this and realize how important family time is to Douglas. This time they all work together to clean the rugs. While beating the dust and dirt out of the rugs they all joke around and tell stories. While doing this Tom studies the rugs and claims that he can see things in them. He thinks in the patterns of the rugs he can see all the people that have walked on them and begins telling stories about different things that those people did. The family all finds Tom’s stories very funny and a good way to pass by the time. I think that this chapter really shoes how important team work is and working together as a family. If one person had to clean all of these rugs alone it would take an extremely long time. With the help of the whole family it gets done a lot faster. While working together they all get to bond together also. This is really cool to see and I love how they all like to spend so much time
