Health is one of the biggest points of the human race. It keeps us healthy, working and most importantly, alive. Without proper research in health science our lives would be much more disease riddled and just overall much worse. This is where the role of the medical scientist comes in. They find new ways the treat or even prevent health issues. Without medical scientists in the picture our growth as a race would virtually stop.
The field of medical science is a vital and ever changing one. Since diseases are always changing medical scientists must keep their eyes peeled for any virus or bacteria that could threaten people. For that reason they are usually conducting research aimed to improve people’s lives. When they are not doing research they are using medical trials or experiments to test their findings (BLS). When a medical scientist proves their drug can help human health the FDA has to clear it to be put on the market for the public. Without new prescriptions always being produced the diseases they prevent could be able to harm people. This is why medical scientists are so essential to everyone’s life.
The career that we call medical science is nothing like what it was a century ago. Even in the early 1900’s people still believed a combination of herbs and spices would cure anything. People paid lots of money for a special blend to cure any of their ailments. The people that made these concoctions went by different names around the world but the practice was relatively the same. The natives in North America were called medicine men and often wore elegant clothing and headdresses as a symbol of high authority and importance to the village. As a medical scientist goes through their daily routine they would have to be able to use many different tools and supplies. The number one device a medical scientist should be able to use is an electron microscope. This allows them to view bacteria and viruses on a molecular level which helps them identify diseases. Another tool they should be able to use is a centrifuge. A centrifuge spins liquids at high speeds to separate the molecules. A petri dish is also a necessary tool in medical science. They let bacteria thrive so that they can be studied more thoroughly. The point being that medical scientists would be incapable of completing their work without these tools and supplies.
Having all of the skills and getting all of the education to be a medical scientist take a lot of hard work which is why their benefits are so large.

The control of the medical market in medieval Europe, specifically in Britain and France was under little authority, unlike in neighboring regions like Italy and Germany. With little control, services were offered to the population by "specialists" whether or not they had a license or some examined degree of competency, and with a medical market place with an increasingly high demand, supply was erupting from different sources to meet different demands for different illnesses for varying demographics creating some key players in the medical market place. The variation in roles of these new players in the medical world is what started the medical market place in the first place. Potions, pills, ointments, and home-made remedies and drugs were sold by apothecaries at their own shops. Medical Physicians prepared drugs to order by each patient after examining them. Barber-surgeons offered services in shaving and hair-cutting, but also added to their trade bloodletting, tooth extractions, amputations and other repulsive yet well needed services. Female surgeons, if allowed to practice, treated female patients (Science Museum). Indeed they were many players in the medieval medical market place, each with their own skills, demographics, successes and failures. Patients were "customers" and they sometimes had options pertaining to the services they need, some options are more expensive than others, some are safer than others, and some maybe more convenient than others, however unlike other market places a successful service could very well save lives, while others may not solve an issue or ailment, or even cause more harm to the patient, which was a common case. Throughout time, mankind has persistently been seeking ways to maintain their health and to cure those that had not been so fortunate in that task. Just about everything has been experimented with as a cure for some type of illness whether physical, spiritual or mental. There has always been evidence of spiritual healing and it will continue to be an important part of any healing process, large or small. In particular, the roots of Native American Medicine men (often a woman in some cultures) may be traced back to ancient times referred to as Shaman. A special type of healer used by the Indians is referred to as a medicine man (comes from the French word medecin, meaning doctor).

In today’s time, nurses are allowed to do much more than draw blood and pull teeth, but are not allowed to perform as many procedures as a doctor. In addition, we still use natural substances as medication today. Then, “lung afflictions such as pneumonia and bronchitis were treated by liquorice and comfrey,” which is still used in bronchitis medicines that are used today (Patterson, White). Also, “stomach aches were treated with wormwood, mint, and balm,” which still holds true today, as many people chew mint gum when they have an upset stomach. Much of their practices, minus the supernatural based practices, actually work (I must to do major research to back up this statement. It is a huge claim but I believe in it enough to make it. Remember, the almighty Goldenseal? Native American Medicine Men used it in their practice. It was through them that Goldenseal was known to be a powerful medicine). These people are natural medicine experts. Their ancestors studied natural medicine, the wisdom being passed down and added to with each generation. Throughout the last one-hundred years the health of the nation and the state of our hospitals in the United States has become a big concern. As the people of the United States health decreases the need for an advanced medical field grows. The medical field is already very advanced and has advanced much in the last one-hundred years. The improvement of surgeries, vaccines, treatments, and everyday medicines are the main focus of the medical industry. When looking at the United States one would see that medical improvements have certainly changed the country for the better.

Although with everything this world has to offer, there are disadvantages, and modern medicine does not fall short but the fact is that there are a lot of advantages that accompanies this course of treatment for the entire society, starting from each individual to the economic state of the modern society, modern medicine is making its mark in a positive way. By identifying and preventing illnesses, modern medicine has greatly improved lives, improved the economy and also diagnosed underlying illnesses in the modern society.
In colonial America much of what we considered modern medicine had not even been thought of yet. In the 18th century nursing was not a profession yet. In America most people were not able to reach a trained medical doctor they relied on the help of the woman of the house. So during the colonial time most of the actual medical care provided was based in the home of the patient. Most of what these women knew was either taught to them by their mothers or by a “guidebook”. In these guidebooks women were able to find helpful recipes for herbal medications. They only time that women worked outside of the home was to serve as midwife to other women. Women competed with men for success because women helping other women during childbirth made more sense than men. However it wasn’t until the Revolutionary War that women really stood up and the field of nursing really began in the United States.
The advances in modern medical science in the near future are dependent upon the advances of methods and procedures that by today’s standards are considered to be taboo and dangerous. These methods will not only revolutionize the field of medicine but they will be the forerunners to a whole knew way to treat people. For these advances to take place several key steps need to be taken both medically and politically. In this paper I will attempt to explain what methods and procedures will be the future of modern medicine, how these methods and procedures can benefit mankind, and finally what changes will be needed in the fields of medicine and politics.
Science affects the world in many different ways. With the technologies that have been discovered we can now tell how warm or cold it will be for the next week, we will know when a tornado, hurricane, eruption or any other sorts of natural disasters will occur before they actually happen. This also helps out all communities. My family loves to travel, and if airplanes weren’t invented we wouldn’t be able to go to many places. We also need microwaves, stoves and ovens in order for us to eat supper, and fridges and freezers for us to keep our food in. We also enjoy watching television and movies, and I love talking on the telephone and listening to music. Without science none of these things would be possible.
