The story starts out during the early morning of a village near La Paz, California. A man named Kino, and his wife, Juana, are sleeping peacefully to the sound of nearby ocean waves crashing on the shore. Kino awakes to the sound of crowing roosters, and to the open eyes of his wife, which he is so used to seeing the the morning. He stands up and approaches his son, Coyotito, who is sleeping in his cradle. His wife, Juana, rises and begins to make a fire. Kino goes outside to enjoy the wonderful weather while Juana is preparing breakfast. After a couple minutes, Kino reenters his home to see that breakfast is ready, so him and his wife begin to eat, but soon they see a dangerous creature creeping up on Coyotito.

Montressor turned around to open the door but it was locked as to be expected, and he turned around and saw the ghost of Fortunato holding the trowel he was buried with. “Hello friend, I have been waiting for this moment since you killed me and I was not allowed to leave this world”, said Fortunato in a voice laced with murderous anticipation. Fortunato raised the trowel above Montressor and Montressor sank to the floor begging for mercy “Please forgive me! Please!” he yelled. But Fortunato wanted so badly to exact his revenge so he brought the trowel crashing down on Montressor’s head 3 times for each man he had killed. Using all the strength a ghost possibly could, he dragged the body to the very entrance of the vaults and placed a note on it reading “The Work of Fortunato”.
He could not sleep and his head was like an old radio that never shut off. His eyes had sunk into his skull from lack of sleep to go along with his eyes, discolored mounds of flesh begging for help. One night the voices led him to leave his apartment and wander through town until they finally led him to the scene of rape in progress. The voices had pleaded for his help, leading through a maze all the while telling him which turns to take. He was in an alleyway behind an old apartment complex and had heard the cries of a woman pushed up against the dumpster by a man forcing all his weight up against her.

As a growing college student this quote brings harsh reality to the world I live in. I believe as you grow through life, you become more and more aware of the world around you through education. In order to be aware you must be educated; The Crusades Through Arab Eyes has done just that by opening my eyes to a world and viewpoint I have never before considered.

The police believed nothing was wrong, but the narrator’s guilt consumed him, and he told on himself, causing him to be arrested.

The narrator murders an old man who he is meant to be taking care of. He claims to have nothing against the man and says that he loves him. Regardless of this, he finds the mans filmy, vulture-like eye to be disturbing and thinks this is a valid enough reason to kill him. Montresor feels insulted by his colleague, Fortunado and believes that it is now his duty to end his life. Both claim to not have anything against his victim other than one small detail, being either and eye or an insult, and feel that they are justified in wanting them dead.They both meticulously plan out what they are going to do to their victim long before they carry out their actions. Neither the old man or Fortunado had any idea that their murderer had any reason to want them dead and had no way of anticipating what was doing to happen to them. One night the ground was frozen and the De Lacey could not get their vegetables out of the ground, so the creature decided to dig all of the vegetables up that night. The De Lacey family woke up the next morning to having all of their vegetables dug out of the ground. There was an impending doom coming to the small town of Calamity. Unbeknownst to the citizens it would come firstly upon a church on the outskirts of a town. A few people were inside as the doom came closer. Preacher Tom was the first one in the church to sees what would haunt the town and was scared out of his wits. He pushes a young woman out of the doorway as he speeds into the church. He continues to bar the door and close up all of the windows as the surprised group stares on at him with suspicion. He dropped to his knees and prayed as a loud noise echoed through the building. The crowd began to scream as the windows rattled and the building swayed. All of a sudden, a whimper could be heard from the back side of the building. The sound was unmistakable, it was the tiny voice of little Lisa Cunningham. Mrs. Hamm hobbled quickly over to the door before anyone else could react. She threw the door open as Father Ted finally came to his senses. Lisa flung herself through the door into the arms of Mrs. Hamm. Father Ted lunged for the door and slammed his shoulder into it right before an unknown force bashed against the other side. Mrs. Hamm grasped the child as and attempted to console her as a sharp pain erupted in her breast. She looked down and saw a dark stain growing on her blue dress and jerked the child away. Everyone’s eyes went wide as they saw the scene unfolding before them. Lisa stood smiling; face covered in blood, and began to laugh hysterically. Mrs. Hamm was becoming hysterical as well, as she noticed that one side of her chest had become smaller than the other as a huge chunk had been bitten away by the child.
