‘The Storm’ is a short story written by Kate Chopin in 1898 but published in 1969 due to its content which was by then too risqué for the squeamish society. It includes the lives of two lovers, Alcee and Calixta, who parted ways due to their marriages with Clarisse and Bobinot respectively. The author uses various techniques in situations like a fading storm reunites the two long lost lovebirds temporary before they are forced to go their separate ways. The author’s creativity in narrating the short story brings out the exquisite sexual orientation between the two main characters as well as features all the other literary parts that help build the events. Kate Chopin uses techniques and patterns of style such as symbolism and paradox in order to reinforce, demonstrate, and reveal the content in the story. It was still held that their innate duties were to clean the house and raise the children. In this case, Calixta is left at home while Bobinot and Bibi go to shop in Louisiana. The writer demonstrates how engrossed she was with her sewing homework that she failed to realize the ominous storm. On the other hand, Clarisse receives the letter from Alcee, who was busy roaming the earth on his horse, while she was busy raising their children. Kate also relates in the story the paradoxical events where the nuptial indulgences which were intended to bring happiness to the lives of Alcee and Calixta ended up locking them in incessant regret. In fact, they were not happy and wished to sleep together for a period of time but they dared not as the storm had abated.

“The Storm” portrays the modern society that we live in, Kate Chopin did a tremendous job using various styles like symbolism and paradox, and it is a shame that she was ostracized for it and did not live to see the impact she had on the society when her literature was finally
