Recommended: Should college athletes be compensated

Financial Incentives At The Collegiate Level Providing financial aid to college athletes has been a controversial issue for quite some time now. The debate over whether or not they should be paid to play sports at the collegiate level is backed up by two strong opposing sides. There are many rational reasons that support each side. I believe college student athletes should receive financial incentives as credit for playing sports at this level. In this essay I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of paying collegiate athletes. Each individual college athlete works hard to earn their spots in the NCAA. One of the reforms said, “It is unfair to bring poor students to campuses to play ball and to waive their tuition, but then to expect them to survive without money.” This meaning those who are talented, but do not come from a wealthy family get their tuition paid for, yet do not get enough money to live outside of college. To me, this is a major reason why I believe the college athletes should be paid. Being a full time student athlete is that of having an actual job. For instance, some people who work in major companies may be asked to step up to a position where they are needed to help the company become more successful with this they are also rewarded with a higher salary. To this day, some college athletes are not able to finish school because they run low on money. Some of them do not have a choice, but to go home and help support their families because they do not make enough money support while being in college. This adds up another reason why college athletes should be paid. If they got paid the money they worked hard for they would be able to share that money with their families and build a stronger
