Children with or without disabilities rely completely on their parents’ decisions for them in their early life. For students with disabilities, this can make an enormous impact on their whole life through adulthood. It is very crucial that students with disabilities have their parents as their number one supporters because without that parental support, who will have their backs in the long run? Who will fight to make sure they gain all the opportunities and possibilities that they deserve as human beings throughout their whole lives? The teachers cannot do it all by their selves. In the trailer of “Including Samuel”, the students with disabilities are continuing to succeed because the parents are staying on top of their students’ educational experiences. In “The Early Years and Parent Involvement” interview (2011), the parent states that there were many people that tried to lean her towards putting her child with down syndrome into a class only with students with disability. However, she wanted more for her child and wanted him to be included into an average classroom setting, so that he could learn the same things that students without disabilities were learning. Without her strong parent involvement, her child may not have had the opportunity to be in a classroom that practiced inclusion.
The parents know what they want for their child, and they want the best for them. Therefore, it is so important that they are involved enough to vouge for their students’ basic human rights. However, not all parents are involved in their students’ educational experiences due to personal reasons. Teachers can help to encourage parents to be involved by building positive relationships with the parents, respecting the families and encouraging involvement (IRIS 2016). With that being said, there will always be some parents that are not as involved, and this does make an impact of their students’ educational
