The Pursuit of Happyness is directed by Gabriele Muccino, starring actor Will Smith and son, Jaden Smith; a tale that is inspired by successful stockbroker, Christopher Gardner. In this movie, Chris Gardner is a salesman and a single father who struggled through life with his five year old son. Chris often finds himself broke and nowhere to go since they have been forced to leave their apartment due to late rent payment. He was struggling to make ends meet and winds up spending nights at shelter homes with his young son. He lost his entire life savings on an investment that eventually grew into a financial instability, which gave him a strong determination to turn his life around. In the long run, Chris finally earned a job as a broker in the …show more content…

His catch on the content of this story is that it is general and relatable to anyone who understands hardship. I personally feel that he achieved this because even though this movie is set in the States, I feel like I can relate to it as with the high-cost of living in Singapore, I realised that I do sometimes find myself or my family in tight financial conditions. This movie got me thinking twice about “money can’t buy happiness” when my biggest barrier was money. However, the message of this movie was clear; if you work hard, you will succeed. The soundtracks used in this movie are also really well-suited. Most of them are instrumentals which I think is simple but effective in expressing joy or sadness in contrast with the respective scenes in this movie. The music also helped in predicting the scenes; whether is it moving towards a positive or negative outcome, or for when Chris is running or the scene is in a fast pace, the soundtrack is fast too. Nonetheless, this movie taught me about endurance and that one can achieve their goals despite the challenges that they face in life. I learnt that as long as I set my mind to it and never give up, nothing can bring me down. While this movie is really meaningful and inspiring, the deepest message that I take away from it is family. It reminds me of how much my parents have gone through to provide to my needs. Similar to Gardner’s character, my parents don’t complain or give up on me. They endured our difficulties while convincing me that everything is
