In the short story Taste of Melon, the readers are always on the edge of their seat wondering what's going to happen next. Borden Deal use fear of the unknown and foreshadowing to make his stories have lots of suspense.
It was hard for me to figure out what the theme is for the short story “Pumpkin Head” written by Joyce Carol Oats. For the most part, I found myself wondering what was going to happen the whole time I was reading, which leaves me to think that one of the themes of this short story could be wonder or questioning. There was a lot of wonder, about Anton Kruppev since, as a reader, and even for Hadley, we were continuously trying to figure out what this mans intentions are. There was also some wonder about Hadley. For example, what exactly happened to Hadley’s husband, what does Hadley do? In a way, as the reader I was sort of wondering what her intents were as well, although, my wonder was mainly on Anton Kruppev. What goes along
There is a road in Totowa, NJ, that is called Anna’s Road because it is haunted by the ghost of a teenage girl that was killed there. Apparently, the girl was somewhat of an outcast and nobody really liked her. She was never asked to the prom, so the night of the prom she was the only one not there. Anna decided to take a walk on this road, since she was bored and depressed because nobody had asked her to the prom. It was just about the time the prom ended and a car full of her ...

She then returned to sucking her thumb and twirling her hair. The teacher then looked at the calendar and said it was Thursday. Zaina said, “Thursday.” The teacher then counted out the days. Zaina initially just watched. When the teacher got to ten, she started to count with the class and counted to 29. The teacher then announced they would play the Lollipop Game. The teacher demonstrated by singing the song and giving out lollipops. When she got to Zaina, she asked if she wanted a lollipop and what color. Zaina answered, “Yes, orange.” The teacher asked her to say, “I would like the orange one” and she repeated this. After the teacher handed her the lollipop she said, “Thank you.” The teacher then handed all the Lollipops to Zaina and asked her to give them out. She sang the Lollipop song as she moved around the circle. She stopped in front of one child and asked, “Would you like one? “What color do you want?” the child requested yellow and she gave it to her. She repeated this two more times. The teacher praised her for knowing and singing the whole song. She gave out two more lollipops and then the teacher asked her to sit down. She complied and watched as other children took
The date was October 31, 2002. The time was two in the afternoon. The little children across the street walked outside their house to carve a massive pumpkin. The pumpkin had a thick brown stem and a bright orange color, which glimmered in the afternoon sun. Something was really strange about the pumpkin, but I could not put my finger on exactly what was different. The children, who were abundantly excited to go trick-or-treating in a few hours, started carving the round pumpkin.
Nicky’s father took his son out with the intention of having him look for a pumpkin and bringing it back home. Not at all did he suspect to encounter anything more but indeed he did. Nicky and his father went looking for a pumpkin at as place that he describes as “a piece of land so devoid of life and interest that from January to October, I’m certain, no one sees it at all”.

The flowers, the big Santa Clause, the lights LED that sing “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”, the snowflake decorations, then you even got snow. It’s all magnificent, and I am really scandalized about how good it looks.” said Mrs. Anderson. Then she turned to Anna and said that’s why I got you this gift. What right there readers. Did you think I was going to show you the gift now? Ha-ha you guys are funny. Now let’s start this from the beginning.
The next day during supper someone knocks on their door. When they answer it they notice it is one of the neighbors from yesterday. The woman says, “Hello welcome to the neighborhood, I’m Felicia.” Then O’Shea said, “Thanks you’re actually the first person to visit us.” Felicia says, “Not to worry that people around here are shy.” Felicia then tells them that she has to go and both of them said, “Bye Felicia.”

Once they were back home, they sat at the dining table and started to eat the food. After 30 minutes her Aunt called and asked her to bring over some food. When she walked over to her Aunt’s place the air was colder, but still fresh and crispy. Once she was inside her Aunt’s place she sat down at the kitchen table and said hello to her cousins and Aunt. After grabbing a glass of water from her Aunt’s refrigerator her Aunt asked her to take care of her cousins while they went out to pick up food. She gladly said yes, even though she didn’t want to, but she knew she couldn’t complain and say no. After 10 minutes her Aunt and Uncle left to pick up the food from Boston Market and she was left alone with her cousins. When her Aunt and Uncle came back they started to cook and the house was filled with the smell of turkey, ham, pumpkin and apple pie and mash potatoes with gravy. At 4:00 pm her family came over to her Aunt's place and said hello and sat down at the dining table and waited for the food to be finished cooking. Once the food was ready they all sat down and said thank you to her Aunt and Uncle for cooking the food and talked with each other while they all ate the creamy warm mash potatoes with gravy and the warm and juicy ham and turkey. After everyone finished the food they all enjoyed the sweet and creamy pumpkin and apple pie. After finishing the dinner, everyone said goodbye
“I’m not thankful for anything”, says Mark, “I’m mad I had to get up early, I don’t want all these people over, I hate thanksgiving!” Everyone just goes back to eating, Mark’s mother tries to talk to him. “Why are you being so moody? Why can’t you be joyful on the day of your family coming together? “Mom!”, says Mark, “why do all the uncles and cousins have to come over? Why can’t it just be me, you and grandma?” “Your grandma loves her children too honey say his mother, I’m sorry you’re in such an agitated mood.” Mark goes to his bedroom, he doesn’t even spend the rest of the day with the family, he just goes to his bedroom, slams his door and jumps in his bed. As Mark lay in his bed with his face smothered in his pillow, blankets over his head. He thinks about how aggravated he is. Maybe I just need a nap thinks Mark to himself, he closes his eyes and goes to

So there I was getting ready to cut the pumpkin and then it started to glow. “Oh look a newcomer, let me start from the beginning of the story”. It was three days before Halloween Michael and I were going to the farm to pick up a pumpkin for our Halloween party to make my famous pumpkin pie for the party. We went creepy looking farm and when we got there we thought just decorations Halloween. Farmer Jason was there to greet us when we entered the gates. We went to fields to find a pumpkin. There was nothing there. We decided to go to the corn maze the skeletons in there looked a little too real to me. Michael said he had fun, so i guess that is all that matters really. After we got out of the maze Farmer Jason was there to greet us and he ad found a pumpkin for us. It was exactly what we wanted for our pie big, plump, and ripe. When we got to buy the Pumpkin Jason says “Be careful with that pumpkin they usually don’t stay that ripe a long period of time.”
