Corporations have hijacked our food supply In the recent years there has been a lot of controversy over our food supply, mainly focusing on major corporations creating food that is unsafe for humans. From GMO to food additives new research has come out that they could be linked to many diseases. What is the FDA doing about this? Nothing. They have little authority and they feel these food additives and GMO’s are okay even, though they aren 't thoroughly inspected before going into the stores. Corporations have hijacked our food supply. The unsafe food, food additives and GMO’s in our food system “Each year, around 50 million Americans get sick from eating unsafe food, resulting in more than 100,000 hospitalizations, 3,000 deaths and countless days of missed work.” (CDC, 2011). They have literally gained control over the basic building blocks of life, threatening the integrity of the gene pool and our collective food security.“Today, because biotechnology is essentially unregulated, it is moving far into the realm of science fiction as scientists actually seek to create life.” (Karlin, 2013). Isn 't it time to put a stop to this pursuit of science for profit. American’s should be worried that “It 's all about profit. Ninety percent of Americans ' food budget is spent on processed food, which is where the big food processing conglomerates like PepsiCo, Nestle and Kraft make their money.” and “The industry has worked with food scientists to develop foods using fat, sugar and salt that affect brain chemistry and are literally addicting, making people continually crave junk food.” Companies are making food just for profit, they don 't care how if affects humans whatsoever. Americans need to put a stop to this
