One of the most controversial and highly debatable subjects in the minds of the American public today is the topic of abortion. While abortion is seen as murder to some, others look upon it as an extremely safe procedure, offering numerous benefits to the recipient, predominantly being the right to choose. The argument has long been increasingly prevalent in the American political scene for decades, and is now being brought into new light as medical practices advance and technical flaws are effectively worked out. What cannot be altered, however, is the reality that what is being disposed of is in fact, a developing human life. It is this fact that the pro-life argument is based upon. The abortion debate not only revolves around the overall legality of the procedure, but also the conditions taking place that would condone such an operation.
Dating back to 1973, abortion has been one of the most actively argued topics in national politics. In the case of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decided that the right to privacy that is guaranteed by the 14th amendment also applied to a woman’s right to have an abortion. The process however did have limitations, as the court declared that abortion would no longer be legal when the fetus was “viable”, meaning able to live outside of the mother’s womb albeit with artificial assistance. (McBride) The case caused an uproar. Advocates for the decision rejoiced as the process was considered an essential component to the development of women's rights, while the opposition took to the streets in protest. The March for Life rally still takes place every year, where as recently as 2013, an estimated 650,000 women rallied together in Washington D.C. to protest the legality of abortion.

... wide variety of opinions n the topic of abortion. 52 percent of people said that abortion should be legal under some circumstances, 26 percent said that abortion should be legal under any circumstances, and 20 percent said that abortion should be illegal in any circumstance. 48 percent said they were pro-life and 45 percent said pro-choice. We personally asked five people at random and every single individual said that abortion should be illegal in all circumstances.
The topic of abortion allows women to take back control of their lives. Because of Roe vs. Wade, abortion is legal and can be performed in the United States to a consenting adult or to a minor with parental approval or sometimes without it. Many individuals get abortions because they have other responsibilities that may be more important at the moment than caring for a child when they are not ready.
