Introduction:

When I was playing poker I was looking for a way to win, to see what the odds are that I would have the winning hand, so I am going to investigate the poker game Texas hold ‘em.
The objective in Texas hold ‘em is the same as in other poker games, individuals compete for a certain amount of money or chips which the players decide themselves. The cards are dealt randomly and outside the control of the players by the dealer, each player attempts to control the amount of money in the pot based either on the hand they are holding, or on their prediction on which cards their opponents could hold.

The probability in poker can be calculated. I am going to discuss the probabilities for many commonly occurring events in the poker variant Texas hold 'em and I am going to provide some probabilities and odds for specific situations.
I am going to do that in two ways:

- The first way is trying to determine the number of outcomes that satisfy the condition being evaluated and divide this by the total number of possible outcomes.
For example: There are 52 cards used in the game. There are 4 aces. Calculate the chance that the first 2 cards that are drawn are both aces.

- The second method I will use is calculating probabilities by the use of conditional probability.
So for example: There are 4 ways to be dealt an ace out of 52 choices for the first card resulting in a probability of There are 3 ways of getting dealt an ace out of 51 choices on the second card after being dealt an ace on the first card so you get a probability of This value is the conditional probability that second card dealt is an ace given the condition that the first card dealt is an ace. To find the overall probability you take the product of the two p...

10) Again, the dealer discards a card and places a final card on the table for everyone to see. This is called the river. Now the players can combine their own cards with the cards on the table.
11) Now comes the final betting round again starting with the player sitting left of the dealer.
12) Players who did not fold now reveal their hands, beginning with the player sitting left of the last player that called. Players now combine their cards and put them on the table for everyone to see.
13) The player who owns the best hand wins. If players have the same winning hand they have to split the pot.

Probabilities in Texas Hold’em:

Table 1.1 shows the probabilities of a starting hand. Which means that it shows the probability, in percentage, of getting a certain card handed out in the first round. So the probability of which card one player gets.
