Did you know that wherever you go in the world, and there are groups, there are outsiders? That’s just humans’ nature. The book, The Outsiders, written by S.E Hilton in her junior year in Tulsa, Oklahoma, written because the Hilton was enraged at the way people separated themselves into socioeconomic groups (Doc A), but her rant about Greasers & Socs turned into a best-selling novel. This book showcases that Outsiders are not just the ones who assume they don’t fit into the society, but they are the ones who view life not as social divisions like Greasers and Socs. It’s possible for greasers to thought as outsiders because they were poor, less privileged and they acted more violently, so people, generally, looked down on them. For example, In Document B, Ponyboy was in a biology A class because he was “supposed to be smart” and he had to dissect a worm, but his razor-blade “wouldn’t cut” so he brought out his razor blade, which created a mood in the class that he was a “hood”, implying that he’s a greaser, violent kid from the slums with a switchblade. They acted “sophisticated”, nothing was real for them (Doc. C), For instance, Cherry Valance said she sometimes says things she doesn’t mean, she raves about it to be “saying something”. They acted fake, “behind a wall of aloofness”. Ordinarily, humans interact by the reason of them having something in common like something they like, that happened in their life, but Socs might be outsiders because they had “more than they wanted” (Doc. C), acted arrogantly (Doc. B, when they were laughing at Ponyboy because one of them called him a hood), but because of these attributes they can’t fit in, they can’t socialize, have nothing in common with anybody so they start making up junk.
