Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or better known as ADHD, is a complex disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. While doing research on this disorder, I became interested in how ADHD affects children. While reading through the information I was able to form my research question, “What is the best treatment for children with ADHD?” So far, I have collected a number of resources including those from books and also articles online. For the most part I feel that my research is almost complete. I feel that I have researched all of the key components of my paper in great detail. The author then goes into detail by going under each category, meaning hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity, and giving examples of what children may be doing that should be a red flag to parents. This was written to help parents’ spot behaviors or actions in their children that may be indicators that they have ADHD. If parents see these certain behaviors, this can help them to know to take their child to a health care professional who can observe the child and diagnose them if needed. From there the parents would be able to explore the treatment options and pick what is most fitting for their son or daughter. Wender starts off by describing the characteristics of children with ADHD and then moves on to discuss what may cause it. He then moves on to talk about how the disorder affects the development of the child. Lastly Wender talks about the multiple treatment methods that are available, which includes the stimulant and non-stimulant medications, dietary treatment and psychological management. This text was written to inform the reader on all aspects of ADHD. This would also be beneficial for parents of children with ADHD because it would inform them on specific behaviors and actions to look for and different treatment options that are available.
