Part I: SUMMARY The Mysterious Cult of Isis is an article that talks about the Egyptian goddess Isis and the fame of her cult throughout history. Her cult spread majorly to a variety of different places and cultures. She is given many names by each tongue. Isis is the goddess of multiple things, she must have been busy! There are multitudes upon multitudes of artifacts in museums across Europe all in honor of the goddess. She was very popular to more people than we probably know. The author’s main point in the article is the extraordinary spread of the cult. The goddess was honored by all. She was known by Thracians, Greeks, Syrians, even the Barbarians. Her cult spread everywhere, she was the only Egyptian god to have been worshipped outside of Egypt. Every important Roman city had its own Isiac temple and most of them were her shrines. The temple to Isis which is best preserved is in Italy at Pompeii. A lot of the artifacts found are small unsophisticated objects, such as everyday materials. On the other hand, some of the other artifacts are of amazing beauty and very sophisticated. These consist of silver and gold, clay, and hard glass. From amulets to statues, the sizes vary. Many museums across Europe house artifacts such as the British Museum and the Louvre. There are also museums in Bulgaria and Russia, to name a couple. In summary, this goddess was widely celebrated by many. She was the goddess of many things and she protected almost everything. It is not hard to see why she was so loved. She went by a collection of different alias’. She was worshipped for more than four centuries, and you never know, she could still be worshipped today! Don’t worry, the terrorist group ISIS has nothing to do with the goddess Isis!
