The Journey to Success

“Be he a king or a peasant, he is happiest who finds peace at home” said Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe. To me, home is a where place I feel most comfortable, where I fit in, where I feel like I have accomplished something, much like Odysseus’s home. In The Odyssey, by Homer, a man named Odysseus faces many obstacles over the course of around ten years as he tries to navigate himself and his crew back to Ithaca, their home. My Ithaca is to get into a good college. Although there are many deterrents that will be in my way, like achieving good grades, avoiding affiliating with people who are not trustworthy, and finding time to volunteer and help my community, there are also many things that can assist me achieve my goals like the support of my friends, the help of my teachers, having the right tools to get the job done. Getting into a good college would make me feel a sense of fulfillment, like all the hard work I have put in has finally paid off. Like Odysseus there are multiple things that could hinder my chance of getting into a good college like trying to achieve good grades, avoiding affiliating with people who are not trustworthy, and finding time to volunteer and help my community. Maintaining good grades is very hard to do considering in order to get good grades one must choose whether they want to work hard or have fun and free time, similar to Odysseus who must make a choice whether to sail past the six-headed monster, Scylla, and "'and lose six of [his] crew'" or sail past Carybdis and possibly slip past or "'lose them all at once'"(Homer 140). One choice is obviously better in both cases, in mine it would be to work hard and sacrifice free time because in the long run showing dedication in the quality of your wo...

There are numerous deterrents that will be in my way, like trying to achieve good grades, affiliate with people who are trustworthy, and to find time to volunteer and help my community. However, there are also many things that can assist me achieve my goals like the support of my friends, the help of my teachers, having the right tools to get the job done. Furthermore, getting into a good college would make me feel a sense of fulfillment, like all the hard work I have put in has finally paid off, resembling Odysseus's dream which is to reach Ithaca, his home, where he will, too, feel most comfortable. In conclusion, during the journey to reach one's goal there will be challenges and one will need support, nevertheless the outcome will prevail over all difficulties.
