Influences of televisions on teenagers

Television is a part of mass media. It has characteristics that it serves most of the population and it is a combination of video, audio and text. People, no matter old or young, used to rely on it for acquiring knowledge. Since TV has been invented, it is used by governments TV to promote their policies or propagandas. This is a powerful evidence showing that TV is an important tool on people’s lives. Therefore, the ways people act and speak are highly affected by televisions. When people rely too much on television, they are unavoidable to receive the harmful effects.

There is a strong relation between teenagers and televisions because they watch much TV. As they watch televisions frequently, their worldview and value are built up. In other words, televisions give education to the youngsters. However, under the situation that the mass media goes more and more commercialized the ethics among the industry is usually overlooked. The messages of violence, salacity and incorrect value directly affect teenagers’ values and thoughts. Televisions affect teenagers in three dimensions namely buying behavior, physical health and psychological health.

This paper is written for the following purposes: Firstly, it aims to understand the impact on young people's television programs and advertisements. Secondly, it aims to study the status of young people watching TV programs. The research questions for the paper is that “What are the impacts for young people to watch TV?”. The solutions of the impacts will also be discussed in the following.

... closely related to teenagers. From the above analysis, we can clearly see that televisions affect teenagers in three dimensions namely buying behavior, physical health and psychological health. Teenagers are very easily to be attracted by ads, they tend to buy products that had been shown on TV. When it rains, it really pours. TV watching can also lead to physical health and psychological health.

The problems seem to be serious, but they can be solved by different parties. TV media practitioners, parents and schools are critical groups for the problems. However, some gave advice to the problems. It is suggested that TV media practitioners can consider their social responsibility when producing programmes or ads. Also, parents can discuss the issue with teenagers and instill them the proper way of watching TV. The government can give some association to the teens.
