My three pictures represents the actor Kerry Washington. Kerry Washington has played in many movies. The movies I decided to pick are Save the Last Dance, Little Man and Lake View Terrace. Kerry Washington allows viewers to see how she can play in different genres of movies such as Drama, Comedy and Terror. Kerry Washington's determination and hard work has gotten her far in her career. She has won various awards for her acting skills and she is a name that all of hollywood knows.
Melvin Udall is a successful novelist living in New York City. In the beginning of the movie he is an irritable, obsessive-compulsive man who alienates himself from those around him. To add to his alienation, he works from home and does not allow anyone in his apartment. His routine consists of going to the same restaurant, being served by the same waitress and eating at the same table every day. His mental disorder is also displayed in several different obsessive-compulsive actions such as turning the locks five times and doing the same for the lights in his home. One day, Melvin’s homosexual neighbor is assaulted and put into the hospital. Due to the misfortune, Melvin is forced to watch the neighbor’s dog while he recovers from the assault. At this point in the movie, Melvin develops an emotional attachment to the dog and his attitude begins to change for the better. Melvin decides to help the waitress from the restaurant by paying for her son’s medical bills. This gesture comes after him having a meltdown when she did not show up to work to serve him. Near the end of the movie, Melvin makes a trip to help the neighbor and invites the waitress to come along. The trip does not go as planned, but the experience helps him to learn to communicate and have better relationships with people. In the end, Melvin falls in love with the waitress and is willing to learn to overcome his obsessive-compulsive lifestyle to be with her.
“The Patriot” is an excellent movie. It may very well be one of the most exciting
equally? It seems to me that the answer is no. The world did not seem
In the thriller film Lakeview Terrace, Kerry Washington plays Lisa Mattson, Lisa and her husband Chris Mattson are first-time homeowners and their safety is soon at stake when they realize their neighbor Abel, an LAPD police officer opposes their interracial marriage. Kerry Washington personality in this movie is an intelligent, well mannered, kind person. Viewers saw the soft side of Washington when was comfortably talking to her husband and when she was having fun with her friend, but also saw the tough side of her when she had to step up to her neighbor Abel and tell him to get off of her property. According to the article Q&A Kerry Washington said, “I very much loved the character Lisa, I had never seen this kind of African-American woman
The American President is a romantic comedy that takes place in the White House during primary season. The president is hoping to be reelected and to pass two bills, one on gun control and one on fuel restrictions. During this movie, the president meets Sydney, a lobbyist, and goes out with her, and because of this he takes a hit on his ratings. The American President shows many different themes covered in politics and government 101, these themes are the rolls of the media, polls, primaries and elections, and the process of introducing a bill to congress. This movie also shows the relationship between the executive branch and the legislative branch while detailing the relationship the president has with interest groups, and his White House staff. While covering all this the movie The American President shines a positive light on politicians, this movie showed politicians having a genuine concern in human life and truly wanting to improve life. This movie wasn't all optimism though, it also criticized some politicians for muckraking and it criticized the media and the American public for thinking that the private lives of politicians is their business.
Steven Spielberg proves to his audience yet again his mastery and skill in the cinematic arts in his 2012 historical drama, Lincoln. Spielberg's directing experience, accompanied by a convincing portrayal of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, by Daniel Day-Lewis provides the people with a film stocked with emotion, suspense, and triumph. However, as with most films based on historical events and figures, Spielberg takes certain liberties in his role as a director to adjust with the accuracy of that history. These adjustments lead to a series of questions worth pondering. Even though a director like Spielberg or script-writer like Tony Kushner, the script-writer for Lincoln, has the ability to make these changes, is it necessary? Will changing certain facts of a film make that film more entertaining for the audience, even though some of its authenticity gets lost in transition? A bigger question would be if these changes will distort the audiences comprehension of the history. As a result, these changes tell a different story for its viewers. Several inaccuracies in Lincoln include the representatives of Connecticut and their role in the final vote, the exaggerated role of Lincoln's wife Mary Todd Lincoln, the use of the Gettysburg Address early in the film, and Lincoln's true intentions as president in passing the Thirteenth Amendment.
Trip or the actual actor of Denzel Washington. A few lines and scenes in this movie made Denzel very famous and will be remember for a long time. Denzel’s acting was absolutely phenomenal in scenes like when he goes against Col. Gould and at first they dont get along very well because of the different mind set between Denzel and Col. Gould Shaw based off of how they grew up.Denzel turned into his character and played his character role throughout the entire movie without being himself and ruining the character. The battle of Fort Wagner did not focus on Denzel as much as the times when they were in the camps and denzel was sticking up for all the blacks seeing that they had a similar childhoods and they know what they are capable of and how much fighting in this army means to them. When all the black me get their tickets and are about to go exchange them Denzel starts yelling “ tear it up, tear it up,” because he is trying to protest the lower pay that the black men are getting. He quickly get everyone on board and they all rip it up along with Col. Gould Shaw who also gets in on it as the captain of this squadron. This shows what an influential and powerful character he is playing that really leads this group of guys, hypes them up and gives them a fighting spirit. I think he was a good actor that never broke character, was dedicated and mentally engulfed in the film and loved his role in the movie based of off all the examples I
As Forrest Gump’s famous slogan goes, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna (sic) get." It cannot be held any truer than during the era of the Cold War (1947–1991). The mighty nations of United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were the main players. Although the movie shows the 1940’s era leading up to 1980’s the Cold War was a fraction on it. It was not an actual war but more a standoff between two strong nations the United States and Soviet Union. It leads to our involvement in Vietnam, the moon landing, and government scandals. All where illustrated in the movie Forrest Gump. America was changing rapidly not only the people even our government. It showed how policies and people would change the focal point certain decades. Although the events were seen through a fictional character they were accurate in illustrating the mood and emotion of how the world was in those times. While it would be possible for a single person to be present at all of these events, it is unlikely that anyone was, so that part of the film is not true, otherwise most of the facts are true. The differences between the history in the film and real life are mostly small details and are changes made to add Forrest into all of the events. The movie was historically accurate and was able to show how over time in each decade had its own stepping stones. Although not any single person could have actually been at every single event illustrated in the film the possibility of it happening is the base it off the film maker made such reference to many historic events. Forrest’s life is filled with many adventures and historic accounts some that had the power to change the world and make the movie intertwine ...
World War 2 is one of history’s most horrifying events. There are many factors that make World War 2 such a crucial time period in history and a lot of people have tried to portray them in the best way they can but at the end the truth is that no one can actually explain or show the brutality that existed during that time period, however, there are several sources such as movies and books that have come close to it. There are many films expressing this gruesome event. One of the best films that does such a thing is Saving Private Ryan, a film directed by Steven Spielberg which portrays D-Day during World War 2. This
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, shows that real war is indescribable, and is not the usual glorification that you usually see while watching a movie. Saving Private Ryan is set during World War II during the Invasion of Normandy, where a group of soldiers led by Capt. John Miller (played by Tom Hanks) who is sent to find Private James Ryan (played by Matt Damon), the only surviving brother of four servicemen. The original release of this film was July 24th, 1998, and it was a box office success, grossing $216.8 million domestically and $481.8 worldwide. The movie was able to earn the title as of the best war films of all time for many reasons. It is able to capture direction, casting, plot, suspense, and action while maintaining a connection
The movie I decided to analyze for this course was American History X (1998), which stars Edward Norton. Though this movie isn’t widely known, it is one of the more interesting movies I have seen. It’s probably one of the best films that depict the Neo Nazi plague on American culture. The film takes place from the mid to late 1990’s during the Internet boom, and touches on subjects from affirmative action to Rodney King. One of the highlights of this movie that really relates to one of the key aspects of this course is the deterrence of capital punishment. Edward Norton’s portrayal as the grief stricken older brother who turns to racist ideologies and violence to cope with his fathers death, completely disregards the consequences of his actions as he brutally murders someone in front of his family for trying to steal his car. The unstable mentality that he developed after his father’s death really goes hand-to-hand specifically with Isaac Ehrlich’s study of capital punishment and deterrence. Although this movie is entirely fictional, a lot of the central themes (racism, crime punishment, gang pervasiveness, and one’s own vulnerability) are accurate representations of the very problems that essentially afflict us as a society.
The movie “Keith” was released in theatres on April 11 in 2008. It was directed by Todd Kessler. Kessler teamed up with David Zabel on doing the screenplay. The story was written by Ron Carlson. The main characters, Natalie and Keith, are played by Elisabeth Harnois and Jesse McCartney. The movie shows how one person can affect another’s life immensely in such an abbreviated amount of time.
As one of the most successful play actors in drama history, Anthony Hopkins has starred in many famous movies. The most notable include Hannibal, Red Dragon, and The Silence of the Lambs. Throughout his career, Hopkins has won an Oscar and three BAFTA awards and has been nominated and won numerous others. I chose Anthony Hopkins for my report because my parents really enjoyed watching his movies and recommended him for this project. Some of Hopkins’ greatest performances are also some of the most memorable this world has seen.
recently watched “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Lightning thief”, and I was surprised by all the recent settings. I for all liked it because it felt more real and interesting. Movies that have modern day settings are better, because when you see something that happened in the movie you can be like “oh this happened here” or “ I wanna go there someday ” and you could, because it's in a “ modern day ”. Also you could relate it to something that is going on today in life. . If we were watching ancient Greek and there were old settings, then it would be boring because you don’t have a clue where things happened or can't relate to the setting. For example the Hollywood sign, you would know that it’s big and that it’s in the mountains. If it were old you wouldn’t know
There are two types of films that associate with the idea of male friendship. The first is the buddy film, in which the characters often have contrasting personalities but gain some sort of understanding and mutual respect for each other. The second is the bromance film, which further expresses the idea of male friendship by incorporating emotion and activity. The Hangover is a bromance with elements of a buddy film because of how the characterization of the four main characters and the setting of the film makes audiences relate to the guys’ experience.
