Employees of small businesses often have to wear many different hats in the company, and this requires employees to have both soft and hard skills. In case 8.1, it discussed how some employees are qualified in one set of skills, but not the other. In this case analysis, it needs to answer if either of the skills are easier to train, and which is important to a smaller business. Also, it looks in depth of training in a smaller business, and what obstacles a small business owner has to face when training. Soft skills are personality traits that relate to a person’s emotional intelligence. These traits are show how a person connects with other people. If a business deals with face-to-face interaction with their clients, soft skills are what makes the business successful. They openly admit that training soft skills can be more difficult than hard skills, because you are trying to reshape someone’s personality. Leading by example is the most important step in training soft skills, if not everyone is connecting with the clients, the new employees won’t feel the need to do so. Ed Mitzen, founder of Fingerpaint Marketing, suggests a mentorship in the workplace, "Company mentorship programs are a great way to align new employees with the more experienced workers within your company whose behaviors you want the newer generation to emulate."
