Have you ever wondered if mermaids really existed? Today, mermaids can be found all over the world. These mermaids can even have professional entertainment careers. They are available for hire ranging from birthday parties to performing in enormous aquariums. Conventions are held world-wide where fellow mermaids (and mermen) can meet up, swim, develop friendships, and make important contacts. Now, mermaids and mermen exist with the help of mermaid tails. The tails are made to last and can also be used in any type of water. Tails are made in various ways. The most common material to use is silicone. Another material used is fabric or spandex. The mermaids will be underwater for a minimum of thirty minutes. These shows happen multiple times a day. There are many employed mermaids therefore they can switch roles or cover for each other. Numerous months of training is required to audition to become an employed mermaid and a scuba diving license is mandatory. This is due to the breathing apparatus used while performing. Multiple lengthy air hoses are provided for the mermaids to use which allow them to stay underwater for hours at a time. It certainly is a sight to see. It all started for me when I was a little girl. My love of mermaids began when I first saw The Little Mermaid and when my grandparents would take my brother and I to the beach every summer vacation. We would stay for two weeks up to two months in a rented waterfront condo. Every day I would swim in the ocean hoping to be greeted by or turned into a mermaid. This wish would even present itself in my dreams, which still happens presently. Obviously, it is an impossible wish.
