Dr. Seuss once said, “How did it get so late so soon?” In all reality Dr. Seuss was onto something because many people are incapable of keeping track of time. It should be well known that in this day and age, something that many people have problems with is time. Whether it’s having too much time on their hands to not having quite enough, time is a hard thing to manage and keep up with. Many people know that albeit, they still are unable of keeping track of it. One of the most stressful things is keeping track of time though there are some people that are spectacular at keeping up with the time such as bull riders and doctors that are operating on a patient. Being able to keep track of time and manage it well is essential to being successful. To manage time properly, it is important to start projects earlier, sleep in less and use a watch or timer. Firstly, starting projects earlier is a key to being successful. Right off the bat, it makes you less stressed for the reason of as soon as you start if you're not trying to cram it into your schedule at the last minute which therefore gives you a stronger finish to the project. Studies have shown that waking up earlier makes it easier to get things done because you’re not worried about not having the time to get things done. As a matter of fact, in 2008 a study showed that people who woke up earlier procrastinate less, therefore, they were better at time management. Even more so people who wake up earlier tend to get better grades and are more likely to be proactive. These things are all significant towards time management because they help you get things done easier as opposed to shoving all of your work into a two hour time frame at the end of the day or trying to retain information for a test at two in the morning because you forgot about
The pace of life correlates with our endeavor to achieve success and upward social mobility. Every day we put up a fight against the clock as we try to fulfill our daily responsibilities and effectively run all our errands. Rushing to complete an irrational
One of the benefits of later school start times is improved student performance. In a study conducted by researchers from the University of Minnesota, it was found that over eight hours of sleep each night boosted test scores, attendance, and overall academic achievement (Long). With a later start time, students would be able to get a better night's sleep, and would be overall more alert (Morin). If students in school are more alert, they will be able to pay more attention to teachers.
The importance of being on time in the military (or anywhere at all), is simply a symptom of discipline, which was instilled in new enlisted soldiers during basic training. Being on time shows reliability. We have to show discipline, responsibility, show care through following military rules and regulations. Being on time not only pertains to accountability, but shows respect to our fellow soldiers, our unit, command and organization as a whole. Being on time also will avoid any disciplinary actions that may hinder you from reaching your goals. Being on time may have a greater importance and effect, than we may know. Being on time enables us to be able to trust and rely on each other in life and death situations. Last but not least, it shows that we will be able and ready to capitalize on our capabilities to complete our missions. It is not acceptable to be late (except when involving safety limitations), because missions and operations are interlocking pieces that must function together as a whole in order for it to work in a timely manner. All successful and respective people all have one common attribute, and this is knowing and exhibiting the importance of being on time.
According to Jama Network, when a high school in Rhode Island changed the school start time to 8:30 rather than 8:00, there was a 38.3% increase in getting eight or more hours of sleep every night. Grades and attendance were also among the improvements shown in students. Teachers were also showing a better amount of sleep when the schools began a later start time. (Jama Network). These improvements can help shape a student’s future. Without a change in a school’s start time, middle school and high school students tend to have poor sleep patterns and bad grades. Therefore, changing the school start times to an hour later in middle schools and high schools across the world would provide many benefits to students.
Are you hitting the snooze button every morning? You are not alone. All over the United States schools are pushing back school start times. Students have shown significant improvements in graduation and attendance rates. Students are far more productive when starting school later. Later start times improve sleep habits. Though there are people who totally disagree with the idea, most experts do support the idea of a later start. Schools should definitely start later.
According to the article, Why School Should Start Later in the Morning, these eight high schools have had a great boost in the attendance of students and grades in math, english, social studies, science, etc.. Along with this boost in improvement of attendance and grades, there was a big decrease in tardiness, substance abuse, symptoms of depression, and less amount of teen car accidents. Analyzing this information, you can see that these eight high schools did not magically have a huge improvement out of nowhere, but it was because that their schools started at a later time in the morning. “Researchers analyzed data from more than 9,000 students at eight high schools in Minnesota, Colorado, and Wyoming and found that shifting the school day later in the morning resulted in a boost in attendance, test scores, and grades in math, English, science, and social studies.” (Why School Should Start Later in the Morning). Many teachers who teach at schools who start at a later time, have said how students were much more alert in class, less moody, and have had a lower likeliness of sleeping in
Waking up early is the daily routine for most students. Recently, however, school schedules have sparked a debate. Some people believe that school should start later due to health reasons. On the other hand, there are many who think school should start early.
Ring Ring! Nobody likes the sound of their alarm clock when they’re trying to get some sleep. The article entitled “The Teen Who Woke Up Her School” by Jane Bianchi, the video named “Should Students Start Later in the Morning?” by ABC News, and the infographic called “Wake Up Call” by Sarah McKibben, all talk about the efforts that students are trying to make to change the school starting time. Allowing students to be able to sleep more would be very beneficial to attendance, academic scores, and the student’s energy!
According to Danny Lewin, a sleep specialist at Children’s National Health System in Washington D.C. “Adolescents have a deeply programmed biological [clock] to go to bed later and wake later.” This shows that kids naturally stay up late and wake up later. From personal experience, not too long ago I was at a track meet in Dayton, by the time our Sheridan team got back it was 11:00 pm and we were tired. The next day I’m really tired, and struggling to keep myself awake. Our growing bodies need sleep to function properly. Students are going to start feeling tired and lazy. More sleep means everything to the students, especially because of our “deeply programmed biological
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says that students aren’t getting adequate amounts of sleep and this is a problem. It was said that “The CDC’s recommendations come a year after the American Academy of Pediatrics urged schools to adjust start times so more kids would get the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours of nightly rest.” (“Why School Should”). This tells us that students need a certain amount of sleep to function properly. An article from neatoday.org states “Unfortunately, concerns about lack of sleep often get the brush-off from schools and even some parents who are quick to blame inattentiveness in school solely on teen behavior, laziness, general indifference, or all of the above. If only they went to bed earlier, concentration and attentiveness would improve. But in their report, the researchers say that schools are ignoring adolescent biology and are systematically restricting the time available for sleep and causing severe and chronic sleep loss.” (“Despite Proven Benefits”) An example of this is helping with student academics. The Atlantic also regards in their article that “Researchers analyzed data from more than 9,000 students at eight high schools in Minnesota, Colorado, and Wyoming and found that shifting the school day later in the morning resulted in a boost in attendance, test scores, and grades in math, English, science, and social studies. Schools also saw a decrease in tardiness, substance abuse, and symptoms of depression. Some even had a dramatic drop in teen car crashes.” (“Why School Should”). From this data you can see that through the right amount of sleep, students are able to better perform in learning
That is because I don’t pay attention to the time when I do things. Then I get off track and start to stress and get frustrated and I try to manage my time but then I get caught up in other things and try to finis all my work but I start at different times. When I finally realize something my time is up and I get angry but for some reason I never learn and is always off time. Like when I get up for school I sit around on my hone for a second and when I’m finally done with stuff I don’t have time to get and I have to run out the house but I found a way to get myself on track and it helps me so I’m
The problem of time management can be said to be universal not only affecting students but also other people in careers. This problem is seen to transition from a person’s life from different cadres of his or her engagement specifically from home, school and at work. It is also a problem that is internal and not external.
What do we know about time management? As adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be. This alone should encourage us to learn about time management. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
Getting up early has never been something I enjoyed, but I know as I continue to get older it is something that I will have to do. Doing this is easier said than done, it means going to bed earlier, so that I can still get the same amount of sleep, while getting out of bed earlier. Starting this semester, I have 8 am classes, which means getting up around 7 am.
