Why do parents spend a substantial amount of money every year to send their child to dance classes from such a young age? This is because dance incorporates the multiple intellectual competencies a child may possess, either enhancing or engaging it. Therefore, dance is beneficial in providing a holistic development through their early year.s
In order to understand how dance can help children ages 7 to 12 develop holistically, this research will be exploring the theory of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner. This theory includes linguistic, musical, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinaesthetic, intra and interpersonal intelligence.

The actions in dance will be stored as ‘muscle memories’ or known as enactive representation (Hayes, 2010). Muscles remember and store information when practiced repeatedly, ensuring the information sticks with them (Richards, 2015). Having bodily-kinaesthetic intelligence, it helps the child remember information easily through movement. Dance also stretches a their body in extreme ways, training them to achieve aesthetics a human body is not supposed to achieve. If a certain method of execution works, it clicks with the mind and body. If it does not work, they will have to experiment different ways to achieve it. Musical intelligence is activated when they follow the rhythm of the drums between words. Spatial intelligence is employed when they try and visualise the letters.
