Without a policy like FMLA in place, many employees often would have had to choose between “the job they need and the family they love” (Hayes). The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 is the first national law created to help Americans balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of the family. It successfully helps bridge the gap between family and work and secures the right for both men and women to get unpaid leave and assistance when dealing with family related circumstances.
When employees have a say in their roles in the workplace they are happier, healthier and more productive. People are social creatures and it is not surprising that working in a team environment can increase productivity, reduce boredom and complacency, while increasing respect and loyalty towards employers.
In my organization, FMLA entitles an employee up to 12 weeks of leave without pay during any 12-month period. The employee must make a request for family and medical leave under FMLA in writing on an authorized form. The form certifies that the employee understands the reason for the leave. When there is a foreseeable need for unpaid family and medical leave, the employee must give a 30 calendar day notice of intent to take leave. Otherwise, the employee can provide such notice as is practicable. If the need is foreseeable and the employee fails to give 30 calendar days’ notice without a reasonable excuse for the delay of notification, the organization may delay the use of taking family and medical leave until at least 30 days after the date the employee provides...

Throughout a person’s life, there will come a period of time, when an employee will need to take a leave of absence. Teamwork is becoming more important in the work place, because of the leaders and the fact that it allows full participation with all employees. In order to complete several different tasks, managers and supervisors usually perform teams and assign different tasks to complete one major assignment. Team work starts at the top (Smikle, 2009). When supervisors or managers are willing to administer teamwork, they are enabling the employees to follow. Managers or supervisors set good examples when they delegate tasks, but more importantly express to the employees how teamwork is productive. Employees work by example, more so now than by demands.
If staff are absent from work they are not able to carry out the functions for which they have been employed. In many businesses, these functions have to be taken on by someone else - if not, the customer could suffer. Reducing absenteeism is an important feature of human resource management. The extent to which absenteeism affects businesses has been a topical feature. Not only does absenteeism cause problems, but employers are beginning to recognise the effects of 'presenteeism' - staying at work when you are ill or because you believe that in some way your 'presence' will help boost your promotion prospects.
Teamwork is key in many situations in a workplace. Without it, many tasks could not get done and efficiency would go way down. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you are working with a huge group of people, teamwork could be between two people. Without cooperation, however, no two or more people could get anything done, or would at least do it very poorly. When you are part of a workplace that consists of more than yourself you are inevitably going to work with others. Even the CEO of a company has to meet and work with others from time to time. So teamwork is a vital part of your ethicality in a work environment and should be readily available to you at a moment 's notice. Without it, you are surely not going to get along well with others or have a very happy career.
