Palmer wrote a response to Deborah King’s article, “The Impact Celebrities Have on Our Lives”. According to Palmer being fascinated by the rich and famous has been happening for ages. The only difference is that individuals are beginning to grow an obsession towards their favorite celebrities. Many of the celebrities that are being worshipped by the people around the world are terrible people. A vast majority of people are currently amused by the daily lives of their favorite celebrity; otherwise, ordinary people will not know how to carry out their free time. Furthermore, having an obsession towards a favorite celebrity is not necessarily an unhealthy way of living, but instead a way more interesting way for a person to not only gain knowledge about the celebrity, but from the situation the celebrity has overpowered throughout their career. The type of knowledge one can gain from a celebrity or a group of celebrities is the celebrities’ mistakes. A perfect example of a celebrity one can avoid being obsessed with is Lindsay Lohan. According to the website biography.com, Lindsay Lohan was once an extremely famous celebrity with an extraordinarily numerous amount of success. Lohan began her career at the age of three making her debut as a child fashion model. She eventually made it on …show more content…
Lindsay had an amazing career, but her bad habits held her back from succeeding. Angelina Jolie is a great example of a celebrity one should become obsessed over mainly, because Jolie did surpass her rocky past. “Although she had a very rocky and well-known past, has come to be one of the greatest spokeswoman about the living conditions children in various third world countries face”.(King 3). Furthermore, having an obsession towards a favorite celebrity is not necessarily an unhealthy way of living, but instead a way more interesting way for a person to not only gain knowledge about the celebrity, but from the situation the celebrity has gone through in their
Celebrity worship is a term given to those who obsess over one or more celebrity. Jake Halpern's "The Popular Crowd," discusses how loneliness increases the likelihood of someone worshiping celebrities. Worshiping of celebrities is not necessarily bad, it can be helpful for those who have a social need that they need satisfied. However, this worshiping can sometimes lead to stalking and violence towards celebrities. Once this happens celebrities are put in danger. Some celebrities receive phone calls, letters, emails, and more from stalkers. They might not feel like this is a sign of danger, but it is. In order for celebrities to remain safe, they need to be educated about dangers that come with having fans.
Celebrities hold a strong power to influence the lifestyle trends of an audience. As members of the entertainment industry, celebrities are looked up to as role models by a large general public. With such high exposure, celebrities essentially hold the power to positively or negatively influence their followers, from fashion trends to behavioral tendencies, the attitudes and lifestyle habits of celebrities influence cultural qualities and the way in which many people function within society. Mindy Kaling’s career started when she became an intern on the popular show “Late Night with Conan O’ Brien”. Mindy was a 19-year-old sophomore at Dartmouth College when she first started her internship.
Growing up, Lindsay Lohan lived a typical childhood with the exceptions of constantly being in the

The star text of a celebrity can help to decipher their image and transitions they may undergo. In order to better understand these transitions, one must know the definition of a star text. A star text is the sum of everything we affiliate with celebrities, which includes their body of work, promotion, publicity, and audience participation (Jackson, 08/09/16). One must note that “celebrity doesn 't happen because someone has extraordinary qualities – it is discursively constructed by the way in which the person is publicised and meanings about them circulate” (O 'Shaughnessy and Stadler 424). Destiny Hope Cyrus, “an American singer and actress, became a sensation in the television series
The Way It Is Celebrities are fun to like, but obsession is another problem. I agree with Collin Palmer that celebrities are an escape from our boring lives. However I don't think it would be good to obsess over a celebrity. It may be that Palmer believed much of what King wrote, however, he disagrees by saying Celebrity obsession is an escape from our boring live. “This may escape us from reality but it wont directly help us on a daily basis.
Whenever we are copying bad decisions celebrities make, we may never accomplish our dreams if you want a specific job or career. In palmers summary, he says, “I think it's all concerned over celebrities in our lives is completely exaggerate” (page 1). In my opinion, I think that Palmer thinks that we exaggerate too much about celebrities and that's all we care about celebrities. He is often wrong because not everyone worries about celebrities because
Everyone has an entertainer that we follow and like, but when does that like of a person become more than that. Is it possible for a person to become obsessed with an individual you don’t even know? Unfortunately it is, according to an article entitled: A cognitive profile of individuals who tend to worship celebrities, celebrity worship is a form of parasocial interaction in which individuals become obsessed with 1 or more celebrities. This obsession is similar to an erotomanic type of delusional disorder in which the individual believes that another person is passionately in love with them. A group of psychologist wanted to determine if this obsession/worship of celebrities had any common characteristics amongst the individuals. They conducted several test: celebrity attitude scale, intense-personal, and 6 cognitive measures. At the end of these tests they found that people with higher cognitive functioning are better at realizing reality then those with lower functioning.
If there is one individual in the celebrity world that is known for his or her troubled thoughts or misbehavior, there isn’t anyone better to recognize other than Lindsay Lohan. An American star, model, and singer, Lohan was recognized in all different aspects of Hollywood because of her talents as a young actress. However, as her stardom continued to progress, so did the instability in her mental health. The mass media and people alike had an influence on Lohan’s behavior by distorting how she was portrayed on and off the screen. Lohan’s family life also had a huge impact on her turnout because she was constantly around the instability of her family members, thus affecting her mental
We are part of a generation that is obsessed with celebrity culture. Celebrities are distinctive. Media and consumers alike invented them to be a different race of super beings: flawless, divine and above all the real moral world. In a 1995 New York Times article “In contrast, 9 out of 10 of those polled could think of something
The celebrity gossip industry has affected our assumptions about entertainment. Usually, we assume that entertainment is just for fun, entertainment is only a reflection of our culture, and entertainment is a personal choice. Nowadays, entertainment is not just for fun. Celebrities entertain us in many ways, but sometimes we do not enjoy what they do yet we still watch them. For instance, many teen idols have had meltdowns. Although it is not fun to...
Regardless of whom you are a fan of you need to be careful so you are not affected by what your idol does. Some celebrities can be looked up to and many cannot be looked up to because of their actions. We, as a whole, should focus less on idolizing celebrities and more on those who make a difference in others’ lives like firefighters, nurses, teachers, parents, and doctors. If you are going to idolize a celebrity canonize someone like Audrey Hepburn because she went through a lot of horrific things and her life and she still made a difference in many others’ lives. She went through Africa helping those who were starving and was an ambassador for UNICEF. Overall the majority of celebrities are not a good influence on people, so we should try our best not to worship them as we do now.
With celebrities all over the media, it is expected that some are idolized by their fans, especially the youths. There nothing wrong with people making celebrities their role models. Celebrity role models can be a positive influence by changing people’s lives and way of thinking for the better. On the other hand, when impressionable kids and teens see their celebrity role models do something that is not morally sound, they will come to think that it is acceptable making it more likely for them to do it. This raises the question: should celebrities be role models? For the most part no. Role models are people that are admired by others for their accomplishments and not their status; however, many celebrities
What is the harm in being famous? “Of course there is no harm in being famous. But it doesn’t protect you either “(Liam). Many celebrities or otherwise well known people have been caught up in misinformation. It might sound like a dream to become famous and have the world at your fingertips. However, when a person is famous they are recognized virtually everywhere they goes, which means that they has no privacy. They can be followed into restrooms, bothered when trying to eat in pubic, interrupted when enga...
