Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games goes on a journey that is quite comparable to a Hero's Journey. It starts with her sister Prim being selected to "play" in the games and Katniss volunteers to take her place. She then goes into training and preparation for the games. She also gets a mentor that is a previous winner of The Hunger Games from District 12, Haymitch. Many of the characters in The Hunger Games match the archetypes of the Hero's Journey very similarly. Every character has a specific role in Katniss' journey throughout The Hunger Games.

While Katniss is in the training center searching for her signature weapon to prove to the capitol that she can overcome this obstacle, she finds out just how challenging it will be to win the capitol and president snow over. Katniss' Approach was to prepare herself for all of the hardships she will have to face. She will be able to find her strength from her mentor, family, and the other person chosen for district twelve- Peeta. After Katniss and Peeta are able to meet and chat with their mentor, Haymitch they set out on their journey on the hunger games. Katniss and Peeta are separated just like every other district. All of the victors whom are full of distress, wait anxiously for the countdown to enter the arena. While waiting Katniss is scanning the scene looking around at who could possibly be her Allies. Once the clock hits zero Katniss races to find supplies. After a restless run in the woods and several confrontations Katniss is exhausted and tries to find a safe spot to take a break. Katniss dozed off and when she wakes she finds that she is covered camouflaged with leaves. She also noticed a bow and arrow laid next to her which luckily for her was her signature weapon. She then nervously looks around trying to put two and two together. Who would be so kind to bring her some materials and cover up to ensure her safety? She heard some rustling noises around a tree and carefully walks over there to find the Trickster, Rue from district 11. Katniss cautiously approaches Rue confirming that she would not be harmed. Katniss and Rue began to form a friendship. Rue looked up to Katniss and Katniss looked to Rue as a little sister. They both have an equal amount of admiration for each other. Shortly after Rue's death, it is announced that two victors may be crowned if both originate from the same district.

In this book, Campbell describes what he believes to be the monomyth, known as “The Hero’s Journey.” Campbell wrote that this monomyth, the basic structure of all heroic myth, has three basic stages, which in turn have subcategories themselves. The heroic story of Katniss Everdeen, told in the movie Hunger Games, follows Campbell’s monomyth outline quite well.

These 12 districts are separated founded on their economic statuses, meaning the higher the district, the more impoverished the residents are. Katniss is the main character in the novel, The Hunger Games. The author of this book is Suzanna Collins. Katniss is a 16 year old who has been chosen with 23 other tributes. In my class we have studied themes and key ideas such as Power of the Capitol, Competition against other tributes and Sacrifice for what Katniss acts and does in the Hunger Games. There are many themes but I have chosen these 3 because they show the most emotions and power.

It is the series of steps that a hero usually follows in his/her adventure where the main purpose of the hero is to defeat his/her greatest fear and return with an accolade. The Hunger Games was a good movie when it came out. This movie refers to a dystopia world in which there are 12 districts and a capitol who rules with an iron fist, in which the districts must provide a tribute to fight in an annual Hunger Game as a punishment for a past rebellion. Katniss Everdeen is a hunter from the 12th district, which Gale, her friend gives her tips on hunting. One day her sister, Primrose Everdeen, is chosen for the Hunger Games, and in order to save her, she volunteers instead to serve in the Games along with Peeta Mellark. During a TV interview, Peeta confesses her love for Katniss Everdeen, which causes the enragement of the latter; however, she later forgives him as he explains to her that it was only to gain sponsors. During the Hunger Games, she did not receive a lot of supplies except some medicine to cure a wound, but Districts 1 and 2 almost won the Game due to their training, and amount of supplies which Katniss destroys but cannot recover any of them. The Hunger Games was one of the best movies I ever watched because it has a little bit of everything and it captures the real-life survival game that we live on a daily basis.
Many themes throughout the novel the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins can be associated with Katniss's father in the novel: however, only the theme of survival truly represents what her father is in the story and drives this theme forward. This man had taught Katniss essentially everything she knows involving survival by analyzing his problems, figuring out how to solve them, and then acting on those ideas. His cleverness, craftiness, and death all shaped Katniss's life from her learning by example from him. Now, her challenge is to survive using everything that her father had taught her now in the games and in everyday life; advancing this theme.

Tributes are people who live in the districts. The tributes in the Hunger Games are all the same. They kill one another and become the Capitols puppets. The tributes become violent, emotionless puppets. Then there is Katniss. Katniss is an excellent hunter and becomes lethal during the games. However, she has not lost her compassion. Katniss does not think of herself as a good person. When in reality she is a good person with a large heart, who puts others before herself.
Underestimated by her competitors, she was able to rise her way to the top by pulling out he secret weapons. Her hunting abilities, problem solving skills, and ability to think on the spot may not seem like super powers; however, they helped her survive and win the hunger games. In the book The Hunger Games it starts off by introducing some of the main characters. It starts off by introducing you to the main character, Katniss Everdeen. They introduce you to her as she is in the woods hunting for her family. By this time you can start to tell character traits about her including she is very dedicated to her family and would do anything for her. You soon meet another character, Gale Hawthorne who is one of Katniss’s friends who helps her hunt for her family who gives Katniss the nickname “Catnip”.

Hercules lives a normal childhood with his mother and father in a small town, were he is known as the town freak and is use to being shunned for superhuman strength, that causes the town a lot of chaos. Hercules always knew that he never belonged where he was, and was destined to find out. Katniss Everdeen is the main character and is from district twelve, one of the poorest districts in Panem. Traits Katniss Everdeen is very determined. If she wants to do something, she tries until she achieves it. This is proved when Katniss wins the Hunger Games after she is told that she should try to win, by Prim, her sister and throughout the games she remembers these words and kind of uses them as her guide. She is also very strong in both mental and physical ways. Her worst character trait is that she lets kind people root into her, so if someone pretends to be kind she will let them root in which means she lets them know about her and becomes easygoing with them.
The Hunger Games is an astonishing reading experience that propels the reader to feel the emotions expressed by the characters throughout the novel. These emotions were expertly developed by Suzanne Collins to create an atmosphere of compassion and understanding. Katniss Everdeen was affected by turning points which caused great adversity, demonstrated her resilience and also discipline as a human being. While others would’ve backed down and gave up, Katniss persevered to accomplish her goals no matter the situation. Volunteering as tribute, losing her sister-like friend Rue and threatening her own life for the benefit of all the districts are all examples of turning points.
