The Giver vs. The Anthem The Giver is about an anti-utopia society in which the main character, Jonas, realizes the he does not agree with his society’s rules and runs away with his little brother. This story expresses the need to be an individual and to break away from the confines of Jonas’ society. The Anthem is about a society that takes place in the future. In this collective society, the citizens have no individual freedoms. The main Character Equality 7-2521 rejects the collective beliefs around him and looks at himself as intelligent, good looks, strong person. He and his love The Golden One leave the confined society to explore and live as individuals. In each of the novels the plots are similar in the way that both of the main character is unique, try to change their civilizations, and leave in the end. The characters are similar they actions are the same. They take towards changing their public because Jonas ran away so that the visions would teach the people what life truly is. Equality tried to show the people that individualism and innovation is not a bad idea. A quote from The Giver “you may lie”. In the novels they want a world that is perfect that everything has to be right. That they can’t use words like “I” and “mine”. That people has levels like being poor or rich no in this community we are all equal. In both books the Childs don’t know their birth parents are. That everybody has a job or get a job and the leaders choose it for you. But seem of the part are a little different from the two books. Both groups express the needs to be an individual and to get away from the struck society. Only, the Anthem society took place in the future without any indiviual freedom.
