Both Islam and Christianity are fairly similar and different in their own ways. A person on either religion might ask, What do they believe in? Why do they believe what they believe in? Or how is it similar or different compared my religion? These questions are asked many times. Some people don't think the 5 Pillars and the 7 sacraments relate at all but they have their similarities and differences.
The 5 Pillars of Islam are the religious duties of a muslim individual. These 5 Pillars include Shahada, Salat, Hajj, Ramadan, and Zakat. Shahada is the main belief of Islam which is, “There is no god but God and Muhammad is the prophet of God.” Salat which is the daily Muslim prayer where you are to pray 5 times a day facing Mecca. Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca. Ramadan is a time of fasting from sunrise to sunset on the 9th month of the Muslim year. Shahada, or the Muslim belief, is similar to the sacrament of baptism. This can relate because when a person is baptized the priest asks, “Do you believe in the God the Father, almighty, creator of heaven and earth?” and as the people say, “I do.” When the priests asks this, you say that you believe in God just as what is said in the first pillar. Next, Salat can be similar to any of the 7 sacraments because they all involve prayer. Some examples of this is when a person prays during the Eucharist, or when during anointing of the sick. Another way that the 5 Pillars are similar is how the hajj is to the reconciliation. During the Hajj there is a day called Arafat and it is “a great day if forgiveness and the day is spent repenting for past sins.” Muslims believe that if you spend this day in a state of true repentance, all past sins will be forgiven. this is very similar to reconciliation because when you go to a priest and confess your sins, you feel truly sorry for what you did and you are
