There are many themes in this book such as teamwork, humanity, there is a silver lining in every storm, and no matter how bad things are everything will turn out okay, and the other theme is it is hard to tell who is the antagonist and who is the protagonist in the book. However the three most important are those that were just mentioned which are Thomas, Teresa, and the organization known as WICKED. The reason that all of these themes are important is that they share something in common with one another. Such as humanity and teamwork humans are one of the few creatures on this world that will work together to accomplish something. In the book when the world is introduced to a man-made virus, it is quickly spreading because it is airborne and people don't care for the new virus. For the best interest of the world, WICKED and the human population have to learn to work together. WICKED (World In Catastrophe Killzone Experiment Department)an organization made to find the cure for the flare. First, they have to learn to appreciate their unique traits. This is why WICKED had agreed to help find a cure for the Flare. James Dashner explains “ You're a member of an extremely rare group of people. You're immune to the flare”(10). They end up working together, but could not find a cure for the Flare so they send the immune ones to a secure location that WICKED has build so that they can create a new civilization for the human race to live on.
