In the crucible there are many flaws that lead to tragedy, is John Proctor or Reverend Hale the tragic hero? Well I think that John proctor is the tragic hero because in the end of the story he had seemed to redeem himself and was able to forgive and move on with himself when he makes the mistakes that he made. When he decided to not sign the document but instead rip it to pieces, it helped his reputation because the people that were fighting for him to be free knew that he was making the right decision because they knew that he wasn’t lying and they wanted him to be true to himself and to the ones that had already been killed. In this story John was a hero to most of the town of Salem him and his wife were known as good christian folk, and they weren’t going to let an affair and the revenge of Abigail ruin their reputation spiritually and mentally. John had a tragic affair with Abigail, which he will soon begin to regret. Elizabeth soon finds out about the affair and is completely shocked, she never knew that her own husband would do something like that. John had felt terrible and had asked for Elizabeth to move on and forgive him, so Elizabeth did but she knew that she could never forgive him fully so there relationship was going down hill fast. Now that there was word of people being accused of witchcraft and Abigail being the accuser John and Elizabeth now know that there lives are at stake. Elizabeth is now accused of Witchcraft by Abigail, and John not happy goes to talk to Abigail which is also a fatal flaw because now that she knows that John isn’t into her, she is going to try and get back at not only Elizabeth but John too. Once they go to court Elizabeth is asked to come out and speak nothing
