Counter Reformation The Counter Reformation, also called the Catholic Reformation, The Roman Catholic Church directed this push back reformation during the sixteenth through seventeenth century. The Catholic Reformation was a response to the Protestant Reformation, which was led by Martian Luther and John Calvin. Protestants began to disagree with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and they addressed those to the pope and priests and demanded that the church be reformed, however nothing was done. A main person that started the Counter Reformation was Pope Paul III.

The Council of Trent issued a re-affirmed doctrine on marriage which stated that there cannot be relations between a priest and a women which is a common thing to happen in the Catholic Church. This re-affirmed doctrine also stated that at a wedding there must be two witnesses at the wedding and there has to be a priest, minister, or bishop there to carry on the procedure of the marriage. today that still holds to be true thats why you have a best man and a maid of honor. Now you can just go online and get a certificate. This re-affirmed doctrine also said that there cannot be concubinage in a relationship or in marriage. If there was a divorce the victim of the divorce cannot marry again so long as the other person was alive. This calendar and issue was approved by the Council of Trent. The new calendar included the leap year that the Julian Calendar did not. Also, the Gregorian Calendar included the leap years in four centuries. When the Gregorian calendar first came out protestant countries denied the calendar but now it is widely accepted.

The Catholic Church declared that justification was a false teaching, however Protestants publicly believe that justification by faith only apart from everything, also good works. Justification goes against the Catholic Church because they believe that the only way that you can get through to heaven is by good works. However, the Protestants say otherwise they believed that you get into Heaven by faith and maybe some good works. Not saying that one should not do good works, however, the Catholic Church believes that faith can be built off of good
